Boys Basketball
This year's squad of Beaver Basketball players is full of hard working young men dedicated to the Ballard Way - a core set of principles upon which the coaches and players agree to build a respectful, responsible winning program. The Beavers bring back a wealth of experience at the varsity level led by seniors Shay Curcuruto - a lock down defender and floor general, dynamic scorer Simon Czyzewski, dangerous inside-out player Val Boyanov, explosive junior guard Rashekem "Fresh" Ausar and versatile junior big man Thomas Helean. At the Junior Varsity and Freshman levels there is an influx of young talent unlike coaches have seen in some time at Ballard High.
This year the Beavers play as competitive of conference schedule as anyone in the state with the likes of Garfield, Rainier Beach and Nathan Hale on the horizon, but also have unique away trips to Glacier Peak, Bremerton and a holiday tournament in Victoria, Canada. Built on defending, rebounding and offensive execution, the Beavers look to make waves in the Metro league this year as they work in the gym and in the classroom each day to support the team's "Ballard Pride" mantra they break with at the end of every practice.
The coaches and players invite the broader Ballard community to come out this season, join the rowdy students of the Beaver Brigade and support our team. You can follow the team's season at

Football
Our first football season as a new program was a huge success in many ways. Going into the season we had a very inexperienced team. We returned only a couple starters from the previous season. Going into our first game we started 12 players that had never played a meaningful Varsity snap. Our team matured each week and by the midpoint in the season we were 3-2 and in the hunt for a playoff spot. In our homecoming game and the game after we lost a few key players to injuries and the inexperience of our team showed as we lost all of our remaining games. Despite the losses on the scoreboard our players continued to work their butts off day in and day out.
Our Freshmen team started the season with back to back losses to O’Dea and Eastside Catholic but rebounded and finished the season 5-1 giving them an overall record of 5-3. They are a talented class with a blue collar work ethic and we are excited to have them join our young Varsity group!
I am incredibly proud of how the vast majority of our team embraced our core values; commitment, cooperation, conduct, and competing. At our 5 week grade check our Varsity, JV, and Freshmen had a program GPA of 3.1! We also had many players receive All-League Honors: Chris Ellyn (Sr.), TE; Corbin Gabrel (Sr.), QB/LB; Eric Henderson (Sr.), WR/DB; Daniel Hardiman (Sr.), RB; Gunnar Beck (Jr.), OL; Shiloh Ta’ase (Jr.), DL; Tod Vicencio (Jr.), WR; Derick Novaes (Jr.), DB; Ian Crocker (So.), LB; Zedekiah Webster (So.), DB; Kade Queen (So.), OL; Alec Sigmar (So.), OL.
We took huge strides in setting the foundation of the program. We are indebted to this year’s Senior class for their willingness to buy into the new program. Looking ahead to next season we are very excited! We return many starters on both sides of the ball, we have a lot of players who will push the current starters, and this will be our first full offseason together!
Golf
Our season went well: boys were 3-8 and girls were 5-6 for the season. Nick Peterson advanced to state in May. Millie Jacobson, Arianna Rauliuk, Katie Reeves and Emily MacLeod advanced to Districts. We had a record 45 players turn out!
Gymnastics
Gymnastics season is underway and this looks to be a great year for Ballard. We have a solid group of returners along with talented group of new gymnasts on the team. Come catch us in our first home meet on Friday, Dec 9th @ 7pm! We will also be hosting two camps for kids in K-5th grade on January 14th & 21st. Email
[email protected] for more information.
Boys Swim
Boys Swim and Dive has begun and we are off to a great start. The team is already cohesive and showing immense support for one another. We are approaching our annual Red vs. Black inter-squad meet where the athletes can start to show their competitive side. Coach Gleit and Coach Brayman are excited to watch this team of 27 guys evolve and to make our presence known in the Metro League. Go Beavers!
