Parent volunteers needed!
Looking for our first set of volunteers! We have a couple quick needs to fill, material distribution assistance is needed Sept. 1-4, and for the Sept. 8-9 makeup days. please email [email protected] if you are interested.

Delivery service is also needed for those who are unable to pick up their materials, starting Sept. 11. Thanks for your consideration and stay tuned for more opportunities in this new school year.
Orientation had challenges but also great spirit
While last week's 9th grade Link Crew orientation was coupled with technology problems, Principal Keven Wynkoop was impressed with the participants' positivity.

"I hope that even with the challenges, they got to start to form some positive relationships with the rest of their group and enjoyed themselves along the way," he said.

One of the fun parts of the program included this Ballard High School video welcome to the Class of 2024. Check out more Freshman Resources here!

COUNSELING CENTER
Class schedule change process
Schedule changes will be prioritized for new students, students with holes in their schedule, students in a misplaced level of a class, and students in Running Start.

Schedules are set based on student selection from last spring and there is little room for movement. Students will pick up textbooks and other course materials Sept. 1-4, so schedules need to be correct/complete by that point.

To this end, students will have until Monday, Aug. 31 at 6 p.m. to email the information to their assigned BHS Counselor if they wish to request a change.

Students are assigned to counselors by the first letter of their last name: Sonja Petersen A-Ci | Sarah Bowman Cj-Han | Tom Kramer Hao-Mci | Gail Olson Laing Mcj-Sch | and Leti Bravo Sci-Z. Please visit the BHS Counseling page for complete details.
Naviance opt out window goes through Sept. 25
Parent guardians, non-parent guardians, and students who are 18 years or older may document their decision to use or not use Naviance in the Source, now through Friday, Sept. 25. More info here.

ATHLETICS
Athletics paperwork update
With the postponement of Fall Sports due to the COVID-19 closures comes an exciting new opportunity for the Ballard Athletics department. Starting this year, changes will be coming to how we accept athletics paperwork.

While we are not yet ready to announce these changes we are asking families and athletes to hold off turning in paperwork in order to avoid having to fill anything out twice.

In the meantime, this is a great time to get a completed and updated physical. Physicals are valid for two years from the date the physical was performed, and must be valid through the day after the LAST day of the sports season.

HEALTH & WELLNESS
Meet the new BHS School Nurse
Hello Ballard Families,
My name is Laurie Tirtanadi and I am your new fulltime School Nurse at Ballard High School. I am very excited to be working with all the students and families!

With the uncertainty surrounding the upcoming school year, I hope to collaborate with, and support you as we navigate these challenging times.

Since we can’t be there in person to make introductions, let me tell you a little about myself. I recently moved to Seattle from Pennsylvania to be closer to family.

I have been in nursing forever. I started out working at the National Institutes of Health in the Critical Care Service in Maryland. After graduate school, I worked as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner in Primary Care in areas from newborn nursery to adolescent health to a college clinic. In 2018, I started working in school health.

I am thoroughly invested in supporting each student and family as we all work together this school year.
I can’t wait to meet all of you!

BHS Families: Do you have a recent Ballard graduate? Please do not unsubscribe to PTSA newsletters. You will automatically stop receiving the PTSA Newsletter but will remain on file for important alumni info.

It is helpful, however, to correlate your newsletter email with a younger sibling grade level if you want to keep receiving the weekly PTSA newsletter this school year.

Some families are surprised come fall when they have "graduated" off the mail list. Send your younger student's graduation class information to [email protected] and we'll make sure it's a seamless transition come fall.

Please also contact the editor if you'd like to add a secondary and/or student email address to the newsletter mail list.
