BHS named one of best high schools nationwide

In his Superintendent's Report at the September 5 Barrington 220 Board of Education meeting, Dr. Winkelman shared that Barrington High School has been named one of the best high schools across the country in the 2023 U.S. News & World Report rankings. Nationally, BHS is ranked the 555th best high school in America. Locally, BHS is ranked the 21st best high school in Illinois. BHS received a score of 96.86/100 based on the following criteria: number of students who took at least one AP Exam, number of students who passed at least one AP Exam, Math Proficiency, Reading Proficiency, Science Proficiency, and Graduation Rate. Board approves priorities for 2023-24 school year

Every fall the Board of Education selects its priorities for the upcoming school year. At the Sept. 5 meeting, Board members approved six priorities for the 2023-24 school year. Each priority aligns with the district's six strategic priorities that were developed as part of Barrington 220's strategic plan, Framework 220. The priorities include:


  • Personalized Learning
  • Future Readiness
  • Inclusive Education
  • Health & Well-being
  • Community Partnerships & Communication
  • Stewardship


Within each priority, there are measurable objectives. This school year the district is focusing on one or two objectives in each priority. Click here to learn more about each priority and objective.

Board holds public hearing for tentative FY24 budget

At the Sept. 5 Board meeting, the Board held a public hearing on the tentative FY24 budget. Approximately 88% of the district's revenue comes from local property taxes. The balance comes from state and federal funding and other local revenues such as registration fees and donations. The final budget is anticipated to be approved on Sept. 19. Board welcomes Station's new School Resource Officer

In his Superintendent's Report at the September 5 Board meeting, Dr. Winkelman introduced Detective Ranae Cirrincione of the Barrington Police Department to the Board of Education. Detective Cirrincione is the new School Resource Officer at BMS-Station Campus. She is one of three School Resource Officers across the district. The other two are located at BMS-Prairie Campus and BHS. This is part of the district's ongoing efforts to improve safety and security, as well as to create environments where students feel supported socially and emotionally.

Grove Avenue student recognized at Board meeting

This school year one student from each Barrington 220 school will make a special appearance at a Board of Education meeting to share an update about all of the great things happening at their school. At the Sept. 5 Board meeting, the Board welcomed its first student representative of the school year, Bentley Lippo. Bentley is a 5th-grade student at Grove Avenue Elementary. He shared that he recently enjoyed conducting a science experiment where he and his classmates learned about chemical reactions. He is also looking forward to attending Camp Timberlee.
