Historic Reform At Planning Commission

On Thursday morning, the City of San Diego’s Planning Commission will hear Package A of Preservation and Progress, the City’s effort to conduct historic resource reform. Participating as part of a broader coalition, the BIA has monitored this proposal since its development and was troubled by the lack of recommendation in the Historic Resources Board meeting last week. The BIA has provided its own letter, signed on to the coalition letter and will be present to speak at the hearing. Our focuses remain on getting Package A passed as written, allowing us to build momentum for Package B, where much of the substantive reform work will take place. Please consider lending your voice in support of Package A via this link, and referencing Item #1.

County Considers Its Own Rental Fee Policy

Following the City of San Diego hearing a fee that would dramatically limit the ability of landlords to recoup cost by charging fees and other screening requirements, the County presented its own policy that was before the Board on Tuesday. Introduced by Supervisors Montgomery Steppe and Aguirre, the policy mimics the same points as the City and presents the additional challenge to industry that we may end up with two separate policies throughout the region. We have requested a joint working group of County and City staff to realize a more practical policy that reflects the needs of industry, and have expressed our opposition as written to both.
