Update on Historic Resources Reform

Historic Resource Reform is continuing on with the resumption of Package A. Currently, it is scheduled to be before HRB on the 23rd of this month and proceed to Planning Commission on November 6th and then to LU&H and City Council pending agenda availability. We are pleased to report that our coalition advocated successfully for the removal of the ability for an appeal of a non-designation from those who are not the property owner, which was identified as a significant issue.

Vacation Homes Tax at Committee

On October 22nd, the City of San Diego Rules Committee will hear the proposed vacation tax rental from Councilmember Elo Rivera. More specifically, the proposal calls for a to-be-determined fee that would be levied annually on an estimated 10,600 homes held vacant or used as full-year short term vacation rentals. At time of writing, the outcome of the meeting was not known but the BIA anticipates being active in the development of the specifics of the policy to provide industry feedback.

Housing, Policy, and the Fight for Affordability with Jim Tobin

Not the big production guys with their own lobbyists, but the local chapters in San Antonio, Shawnee, and Iowa. He sits with the builders doing five homes a year, the ones dealing with permitting headaches and code changes and trying to figure out how to keep prices reasonable for buyers who are already stretched thin.
