TALKING POINTS:
  • I oppose the City including a Vacancy Tax on the November 2020 Ballot.
  • The voice and input of stakeholders have been left out of this policy.
  • This measure should not be unnecessarily rushed through the legislative process.
  • More time would allow staff to provide more accurate data to help find the best solution.
  • Imposing a tax of this magnitude can make building housing more difficult.
  • Creating a vacancy tax would create more hurdles to housing production.
  • The City is facing serious financial challenges, including furloughing 15,000 employees. This initiative will cost $12 million dollars to include on the ballot.
  • Now is not the time to move forward with a vacancy tax.
