On May 7th, the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG) is scheduled to vote on a new long-range transportation plan and growth scenario, which will have a significant impact on Southern California housing and transportation policies over the next 25 years.
We are asking elected officials to help us keep housing and jobs in our region by voting for a
90-day delay on the
Regional Transportation Plan/ Sustainable Communities Strategy
(RTP/SCS). The plan was first released to the public on March 29th and is over 10,000 pages long. SCAG has refused BIA’s request for a 90-day postponement to allow for a more thorough review process.
Initial reviews have determined that in its current form, the plan would seriously jeopardize the ability to build thousands of already entitled new housing units across Southern California.
Due to the current public health order restrictions, both the public and the business community have been unable to provide adequate input on the final draft of the plan. The final proposed documents were not made available until the last week of March. Meeting with SCAG staff is difficult, and stakeholders’ agents are hard pressed to meet and confer.
Many organizations across the region have allied themselves with our concerns and are opposing the RTP/SCS, including: Los Angeles County Business Federation (Bizfed), the Southern California Leadership Council and the Orange County Council of Governments (OCCOG).
