"Construction Connection" is your source for monthly information on industry news and events to keep you in the know. BIA-Hawaii is The VOICE of the construction industry and we work diligently to promote our members through advocacy and education and provide community outreach programs to enhance the quality of life for the people of Hawaii.
President's Address to Members
Aloha, I am excited and humbled to be leading BIA-Hawaii in 2021. The industry is full of hope and opportunity and the association is poised to support our members to benefit from the opportunities that are presented.

BIA offers many resources to our members, but I feel one of the most important is BIA’s Education program.

During last year’s unprecedented shutdown, BIA was able to offer educational classes, resources and online trainings to our members and the community due to our ability to pivot program delivery to an online format. While in-person classes are normally preferred, the online course content was equally engaging and informative and post-event feedback reflected our member’s satisfaction with the new format.

We will begin the first quarter of 2021 with online delivery and as restrictions for in-person gatherings are lifted, we will gradually move back to in-person instruction.

One of BIA’s goals for 2021 is to continue to bolster our education platform to provide meaningful content both virtually and in-person. We hope to reach more of our members and those interested in joining the construction industry. As builder confidence is at an all-time high nationwide, I am optimistic the trend will continue in Hawaii as well.

There is a shortage of labor despite high unemployment rates. BIA is here to train displaced workers, help professionals in the industry skill-build, and work with employers to place workers in jobs.

BIA will focus on expanding our education offerings by 40% including workforce entry and professional development courses as well as specialty courses such as historic building preservation.

I encourage you to take a class, learn a new skill, gain a new certification, and inspire your employees and colleagues to do the same.

Here’s to a successful 2021 and I look forward to hopefully gathering in-person with you all as soon as we are able!
