A Maryland woman is still recovering from a brain injury after nearly 30 years. But she's using her battle to inspire others to keep fighting.
Brain injuries affect nearly 1.5 million Americans every year, experts say. Many suffer in silence and succumb to depression and anxiety.
Adrienne Walker-Pittman strives to win that battle every day. She suffered traumatic injuries after an accident in January 1996.
"All of that part of my life is kind of a fog to me. And I don't know if that's my brain saying, 'This was a bad time and you don't need to remember this,' or if it's part of the brain injury blocking stuff out," she said.
But her daily routine brings her back.
"Every morning I put my prosthetic leg on, and that's a reminder of what happened to me, but I thank God that I'm still here," she said.
