GOVERNOR HOCHUL RELEASES PROPOSED 2026 BUDGET | | |

The Governor's Budget would effectively end the StartUP NY program after this year, but it includes a new program called Catalist which would provide similar tax benefits as StartUP NY to companies that complete an incubation program. Though StartUP NY included over 1,000 companies. More details are needed and we have scheduled meetings with the Governor's Office and Legislative Leaders to find out more. | |

Zero Irving Workforce Development Project Fund RFP
(Due January 15, 2025)
The Community Advisory Board for Zero Irving recently released a Workforce Development Project Fund RFP. The RFP seeks proposals for workforce development initiatives in connection with Civic Hall. The Fund is endowed with $200,000 annually, and the RFP seeks proposals that prioritize pathways for individuals to reach economic security and mobility through career pathways. Submissions are due by January 15, 2025.

If you’ve ever tried to build a mentor network in a developing startup ecosystem, you’ve likely run into the same problem I have: there just aren’t enough experienced mentors to go around. This is why many startup mentor programs fail and the founder and the community fails as well.
It’s not that there aren’t smart, successful businesspeople willing to help. There are plenty of executives, consultants, and seasoned professionals who want to give back. But being a good businessperson and being a good startup mentor are two very different things.
