In 2023 Touro established the TouroCOM Middletown Research Incubator, a nearly 9,000 sq ft space where local small businesses with research applications can rent space, bring exciting new projects to campus, and facilitate collaborations between faculty and students. The space includes an iso-7 level clean room, various laboratories and office spaces, a conference room, and a 3D printing room.

The New York Power Authority is opening a first-of-its-kind electric grid and power systems laboratory. The Advanced Grid Innovation Laboratory for Energy, or AGILe, will be a research center at the NY CREATES' Albany NanoTech Complex that can host various simulations to help promote more sustainable power and the transition to clean energy across New York state and beyond. |

Launch NY is excited to continue bolstering Upstate New York's vibrant startup ecosystem with new investments in Buffalo, Ithaca, and Rochester. They’ve announced that their Nonprofit Seed Fund and LP Fund II have invested three innovative companies—Caretech Human, TelosAir, and Edenesque—each receiving $175,000 to scale their manufacturing and bring their groundbreaking products to market.
Caretech Human, based in Ithaca, has developed a revolutionary at-home health monitoring device for urology diseases, offering non-invasive and continuous screening. TelosAir, a Rochester-based company, is transforming indoor air quality management with its advanced sensor technology and data analytics, poised to capture a significant share of the $100 million market. Edenesque, headquartered in Buffalo, produces plant-based dairy products that are already making waves in over 100 locations in the New York City area....

Climate Tech and Disaster Mitigation Innovators Wanted
Opportunity for any companies that are working in climate tech, disaster risk mitigation and circular economy technology.
Intralink is looking for market-ready solutions within the below fields, and would aim to begin providing these products/services to its customers in Japan within the current financial year. They are keen to proceed with PoCs by September 2024.
There is no geographic limitation on this search but it needs to be a market-proven, tangible product or technology and ready to be deployed in Japan. Plug-and-play solutions would be preferred.
Targets:
- Afforestation
- Loss reduction (food, energy, heat)
- Biomass enhancement
- Domestic energy production
- Products made from waste streams or circular processes
Hydrogen, CCUS, insect-based foods, chemicals, agritech and automotive components are out of scope.

Gameto is a biotech company that is focused on women’s reproductive health using cell engineering. The company’s first commercial candidate, Fertilo, is able to develop “ovaries in a dish” without the need for injections and also truncates the timeline for IVF and egg-freezing to 2-3 days from the customary 10-14 days. Gameto also has a program available for sperm fertility and is looking at new ways to expand its cell engineering to tackle conditions associated with menopause. Fertilo is currently being used in Australia and Latin America and the company plans to launch commercially in these markets by the end of the year. | |

To understand the role that an accelerator can play, we first must share a common definition of what makes for an accelerator. Unfortunately, the definition has widened to include any program that in some form helps new entrepreneurs (coworking as an example). For this post, I only include those accelerator programs that provide an investment (usually $25k to $120k in the form of an equity investment), have a fixed program time element (usually 3 months) and have an intense focus on mentorship.

Now Available: Energy I-Corps Spring Selections and 2023 Annual Report
DOE announced 25 selected projects for the spring round of the 2024 Energy I-Corps program. Energy I-Corps is one of OTT’s key initiatives that empowers National Lab researchers to collaborate with industry and turn research and development into demonstration and deployment. In 2023, Energy I-Corps ushered 24 teams from eight National Labs through the traditional immersive two-month curriculum, now known as Topic 2: Training Cohorts. We also expanded the program in 2023 by introducing pre- and post-Training Cohort offerings called Topic 1: Pipeline Development and Topic 3: Post Energy I-Corps, respectively.
Since 2015, our program has seen:
- $177M+ in funding
- 20+ new businesses launched
- 78 licenses executed
- 450+ participants.
