BIA Working For You

Preservation & Progress

BIA's Urban Council, along with coalition partners, will be submitting a letter to the City of San Diego addressing proposed code amendments aimed at updating San Diego's historical resources regulations.

City of San Diego: Historic Resources Board Policy Subcommittee

On August 11, the Historic Resources Board Policy Subcommittee met to review the Preservation and Progress Package A reforms. Members will recall that the historic reform effort has been divided into two separate packages, with Package A currently under review by the subcommittee, and Package B being expected next year. The meeting this week was unusually well attended, with expected comments from preservationist groups arguing that historic policies are never a deterrent from housing, and members of our coalition reminding the Subcommittee and staff that this effort should keep the City’s need for housing at the forefront. One area of note is the proposed ability to appeal a non-designation, even from someone not the property owner, which was an item requested for further discussion from the July meeting. The next meeting will take place on September 8th, and in the meantime we are contributing to a coalition letter outlining areas of concern and other relevant comments.

2025 Land Development Code Update

The City of San Diego has released its draft 2025 Land development code update list which includes a total of 142 proposed amendments: 106 Citywide and 36 Downtown-specific amendments. Full language is expected to be released in the coming weeks. Click on the links below to learn more!

Utility (Summer) Boot Camp

Housing and SDG&E, can I connect? Water in San Diego, do we have enough? Do they mix, can the come together, can we get service, how do we know if our project manager is on target? Attend the upcoming Utility Boot Camp and hear first hand from the Water Authority.

We'll also hear remarks from Will Spear with SDG&E on how the industry is responding to the state mandate to electrify everything. What help can we expect from the CPUC, and what will the directive to energize within 30 days mean to our industry, is it even possible?

Closing out the event hear from our panelist, Jennifer Summers, Li-Chi Hua and Sneha Parmar, the dynamic trio in charge of Planning, Design and Construction. Learn how they are coordinating their efforts and what that will mean to the development process.

Support the Future of Housing in San Diego

We need your help to sustain the work of the BIA PAC for the 2025 year at the PAC's Annual Fundraiser on August 27th at Coasterra.

The BIA PAC supports candidates that are champions of housing and will work to improve our ability to build the housing this region needs. A healthy housing market supports a healthy business economy. If employees can’t live here, businesses won’t thrive.

Please join your BIA PAC as we work together to support the candidates committed to a brighter housing future.
