President’s Remarks

By Melissa Auten, President of SAGE, Unscripted Interior Design

With temperatures still warm in So Cal it is hard to believe we are in the 4th quarter of 2024, but your SAGE Council is ready for our last event of the year, our Think Tank workshop and planning for 2025.

This year our exclusive MEMBERS ONLY Think Tank event is also part of our membership drive.

What do we mean, become a Member of SAGE Today and you get to attend the Think Tank for FREE. Yes, that’s correct your Annual Sage Membership will include a ticket for our Oct 31st event. But hurry, this will sell out and we would hate for you to miss joining us throughout next year!

We continue to support our Industry with advocacy efforts supporting bi partisan candidates who support housing. At the recent NAHB Fall Board meetings they reminded members that the housing crisis is one of the most important issues facing Americans right now. The emphasized the point, NAHB launched a campaign, “We Build. We Vote.” As well as “Let Builders Build”.

Please remember to you your voice at the ballot box in November. And if you would like a campaign sign to download it today at https://www.nahb.org/advocacy/election-2024/we-build-we-vote.

We invite you to get involved! Join us at our Think Tank and experience all the reasons to support SAGE in 2025.

Thank you.

Event Recap

BIS at Pechanga, Temecula– Sage Breakfast

Adaptive Reuse and Senior Housing

On September 19th, Sage hosted a standout educational breakfast at the 2024 Building Industry Show (BIS), held at Pechanga Resort in Temecula. The early morning session was an exclusive opportunity to hear from industry leaders who are transforming the future of housing through adaptive reuse.

The session, moderated by David Pintar, Director of Project Development at CW Driver, featured an all-star lineup of speakers: Doug Pancake, President of Douglas Pancake Architects, Michael Massie, Chief Development Officer at Jamboree Housing, and D. "Rocky" Rockefeller, CEO of Rockefeller Partners Architects. These experts shared their wealth of knowledge on converting office spaces, hotels, and even historic manufacturing buildings into housing that meets today’s needs, particularly for seniors.

Attendees were treated to eye-opening presentations, including before-and-after examples that showcased the remarkable potential of adaptive reuse in creating innovative housing solutions. The panelists delved into both the challenges and rewards of repurposing existing structures, offering valuable insights and lessons learned for anyone interested in this evolving sector of the housing market.

Thank you very much to our expert panel – we were in awe of your talents and amazing adaptive reuse projects! Keep up the great work.

ACT NOW

Protect Our Homes and Communities

Insurance companies are leaving California rapidly, leaving many residents needing help to afford or obtain home insurance as rates increase. This crisis directly impacts our building industry and makes homeownership more difficult for families statewide, making homeownership unattainable.

WHAT'S AT STAKE:

Loss of Coverage: As insurance companies continue to exit California, homeowners have fewer choices with partial or no coverage.

Soaring Premiums: The doubling or tripling of insurance rates is not just a statistic. It's a financial burden that many homeowners in California are facing.

Partial Coverage: Several renewed insurance policies don't adequately cover the cost of rebuilding or repairing their homes, leaving families vulnerable in a disaster.

Impact/Loss on Homeownership: Rising premium costs are making homeownership increasingly unattainable for many Californians, which discourages potential buyers.

Housing Market Disruption: As homeowners face unaffordable insurance rates, there is a growing risk of displacement. Families may be forced to move away from their communities.

TAKE ACTION

As members of BIASC, your voices matter and can make a difference in resolving this crisis. Here’s how you can help.

Please click the link below to urge your local elected officials to support passing an emergency resolution. We need the Insurance Commissioner, the Governor, and the State Legislature to declare a state of emergency and pass immediate regulatory and legislative measures to reform these policies.
