Right now Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Arizona is experiencing a surge in boys enrolling in our program. At this time for every one guy ready to volunteer as a Big, there are 12 Little boys waiting to be matched— leaving 11 children who will be asked to wait longer. Did you know that being a Big mentor can be as easy as showing up to play video games? Seriously—just sharing your favorite hobby twice a month can make a life-changing impact.

Hi, my name is Nicole Torres, and I’m a Match Support Specialist with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Arizona. I’d love to share a heartwarming story about a truly special match.
John and Ian were first matched on October 22, 2014, when Ian was just 10 years old. Over the last 11 years, they’ve built a strong and lasting friendship rooted in trust, laughter, and consistency. From hiking local trails to trying new restaurants and finishing each outing with a trip to a local ice cream shop, they created beautiful traditions that turned into lifelong memories.
One of their favorite moments was going to a concert together in Phoenix. They shared how much fun they had singing along to the artist on the way there—it was one of those simple, joyful experiences that really sticks with you.

I had the privilege of meeting them for breakfast on May 19, 2025, at one of their favorite local spots. Sitting with them and hearing their stories firsthand was a reminder of how impactful these connections can be.
Although their official match is closing now that Ian has turned 21, it’s clear that their bond will continue well beyond our program. Their story is a beautiful example of what mentoring is all about—showing up, making memories, and being there through life’s changes.
To Big Brother John—THANK YOU. Thank you for believing in the power of showing up. Thank you for being a source of encouragement, for sharing your time, your heart, and your laughter. You remind us all what it truly means to be a mentor—not just for a moment, but for a lifetime.

Big Brothers Big Sisters is thrilled to celebrate our ongoing partnership with Ulta Beauty! Recently, one of our Littles and her Big were treated to a special day at a local Ulta store—a joyful experience filled with self-care, self-expression, and unforgettable moments.
Together, they discovered positive, creative ways to enhance well-being while connecting with the welcoming Ulta Beauty staff, who showed incredible warmth and support.
Now through June 14, the Ulta Beauty Charitable Foundation is supporting youth mental health by collecting donations in-store for Big Brothers Big Sisters. 100% of donations fund mentorship programs that empower young people. Visit your local Ulta and help us make more possibilities a reality!
