How does a shy, fearful young boy who was bullied in school become the confident, outspoken BGCOP Youth of the Year? Through his own resilience - of course - but also through the deep, positive bonds he has built with his role models and peers at the Boys & Girls Club.

I am so proud to announce that not only is Carlos Perez our Youth of the Year, but he is also now the California Coastal Youth of the Year!
At a young age, Carlos and his family had to leave their home, and he was separated from his siblings. Today, he has used that experience to solidify his life goal: become a construction manager. He wants to ensure no one has to go through what he and his family did. I am honored to see him represent our Clubs and our community. State competition - here he comes!
In other great news, I am excited to share the Save the Date for our 20th Annual Great Futures for Kids Breakfast: Thursday, May 12, 2022 from 7:30 - 9:00 am at Heritage Square in Oxnard!
Keynote Speaker is Dr. Jose Hernandez, who went from migrant farmworker to NASA astronaut, and we will also hear from our Youth of the Year, Carlos Perez.
