The Countdown Begins

The beginning of the summer season is within sight, but it’s important to first finish our time with students in the best way possible. Many of these students will be in our classrooms again in the fall, and it’s essential to keep those relationships strong to start the new year with the best foot forward.

When you’re not busy with final exams and tying up loose ends, take time to reflect on your impact over the past nine months and celebrate the work that you’ve done. As a BIST community, we’ve made huge strides forward this 2022-23 school year to build more classrooms rooted in grace and accountability, and there are plenty of moments to celebrate. You did it!

Among other things, we’re celebrating the incredible impact that Marty Huitt, Director of BIST, has made during her 25+ year tenure with the BIST program. Her guest blog gives a window into the growth and development of the BIST program over the years and highlights one of those moments with a student that makes it all worth it. We’re also celebrating a record-breaking turnout at the 2023 Vision Team Conference, where ideas, encouragement, and laughter were shared over a two-day retreat at Grace and Holy Trinity Cathedral. Thank you to all of our BIST consultants, district partners, educators, and each of you that were part of this event.

Did you think that the BIST program was taking a break for the summer? Think again! The summer is the perfect time to step away from the classroom and schedule a training or two for yourself and other members of your team to get ahead before next year. Check out our list of upcoming trainings at the bottom of this email and reach out with any questions about a training, BIST, or the upcoming school year.

BIST in Action: 33 Years of Impact in Public Schools

Guest Blog by Marty Huitt

My journey with BIST (Behavior Intervention Support Team) began in 1997 as a BIST Consultant working in schools throughout the Kansas City metro area. Six years later, I took on the role of Director of BIST. Since that time, I have had the awesome opportunity to witness schools on their journey to enhance care for students.

2023 BIST Vision Team Conference Celebrates Biggest Turnout In Program History

Over 210 educators from Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, and Illinois gathered for the 2023 BIST Vision Team Conference at the Grace and Holy Trinity Cathedral in Kansas City on Friday, April 21, and Saturday, April 22. The theme this year was: "Growing Our Capacity, Owning Our Impact." The conference created space for up-and-coming Vision Teams to network with other Vision Teams, analyze data, build on the philosophical BIST foundation, and problem-solve to meet the needs of our most challenging students. Marty Huitt, Director of BIST, was the primary presenter, and three Vision Teams (pictured below) also presented at this year's conference.

Vision Team from Santa Fe Elementary School in Waverly, Mo.

Vision Team from Bernard Campbell Middle School in Lee's Summit, Mo.

Vision Team from Bowling Green Elementary in Bowling Green, Mo.
