Beith Hamidrash Geo-radar Exploration

PLANNING FOR THE BEITH HAMIDRASH PROJECT IS PROGRESSING!  In preparation for the restoration project, a process known as Ground Penetrating Radar (or GPR) was performed on the entirety of the Beith Hamidrash building and its surroundings. Mr. Terray, the professional who performed the GPR process, provided a 3D computer model together with a detailed report of the findings. The results show the presence of 2 structures from different time periods. The first may be the remnants of the foundation of the oldest synagogue that once stood there. The second structure shows the remnants of 2 pools which may be the place where the oldest Mikvah once stood. We are very excited about the findings and we will report more as the process continues.  The images below show Mr. Terray perfoming the GPR process, and some of the images from the final report.

Old Synagogue receives CEZAAR award

The recently restored Old Synagogue in Bardejov has been awarded the  CEZAAR prize for architecture in Slovakia , presented by the Slovak Chamber of Architects.  Winners were chosen from five different categories and Bardejov's Old Synagogue won in the category of Restoration. BJPC Partners with the Foundation for the Preservation of Jewish Heritage in Poland The Bardejov Jewish Preservation Committee partnered with FODZ- the Foundation for the Preservation of Jewish Heritage in Poland, on the Chassidic Route project.   The Chassidic Route is a tourist route following traces of Jewish communities through southeastern Poland. Goals of the project include stimulation of the socio-economic development of the region by promoting multicultural heritage-oriented tourism. The Bardejov Jewish Preservation Committee (BJPC) is the first foreign partner to join the project that so far had only included sites in Poland. We hope to foster further relationships with FODZ and other European organizations working to preserve Jewish Heritage in other parts of Europe.
