Vita in suburbium
received six thousand Euros to save a rare steam engine in Bardejov. This unique, national technical monument once supplied steam to the ritual baths. It is located in the Jewish suburbia of Bardejov, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The unique steam boiler is over 100 years old. It was made by the company Poledniák Károly from Košice. The boiler itself is a rarity - it is probably the last known steam boiler made by this company. The restoration will be completed not only on the machine itself, but also on the preserved parts of the heating system from the ritual baths that disappeared after the deportation of the Jews.
The restoration of the national technical monument is supported by the EPH Foundation who provided the funding. The Central Union of Jewish Religious Communities in Slovakia (UZZNO) is also a partner in the project.
Restorers under the leadership of Martin Kutný, as well as volunteers and students of the Leonard Stöckel Grammar School, are working on the repair.
