Ten-year Anniversary of the Dedication
of Bardejov's Holocaust Memorial
2024 will mark the 10-year anniversary of the dedication of Bardejov’s Holocaust Memorial.

We plan to commemorate this important milestone on June 19th, 2024. It will be part of our yearly commemoration event in Bardejov.

We are also planning additional activities, such as tours and lectures, as part of the event. Further details about the schedule and itinerary of the event will be sent in the coming months.

We hope to see you in Bardejov in 2024!
Beith Hamidrash Museum Updates
The Beith Hamidrash restoration project is still in progress. The image below shows a panoramic view of the vacated interior which was structurally strengthened and cleaned. The exterior walls have been completely restored. The layout of the interior space is still in the design stage, and we hope that we can open the first stage of the Bardejov Museum of Jewish Heritage for our 2024 event.

News about the Mikveh
We are making plans for the restoration of the Mikveh which will hopefully take place in the new year. The exterior of the Mikveh is partially restored, but there are also plans to expose the Mikveh baths that are currently under the wooden floors of the previous hardware store. The Mikveh space will be part of Bardejov's Jewish Heritage Museum, and we hope that together with their shared yard, the two buildings will function as one unit.
The Jewish Suburbia
When the above-mentioned projects are completed, the three buildings (Beith Hamidrash, the Synagogue and the Mikveh) will be a one-of-a-kind restored complex that does not exist elsewhere in Europe - it is for this reason that it was declared as a UNESCO world heritage site. Once the complex is completely restored, it will become a major destination for Heritage tourism.
"Bardejov" Movie Premiere
The film, telling the notable story of Refuel Lowy and the Typhoid Rescue Plan (Memorial Book of Jewish Bardejov, page 76 and 77), is the initiative of Mr. Fish. The filming, which took place in both Israel and Bardejov, concluded in August. Post-production finished in November and the film will hopefully premiere early next year. We will send final details once we have them. You may view a photo gallery of the movie filming on our website.
Jewish Wanderings Tour
On Saturday, November 19th, the "Bardejov Jewish Wanderings" tour was led by Mr. Cyril Bogol, who has been the caretaker of the Cemetery and the Bikur Cholim Synagogue for the past 18 years.

The tour was part of "Bardejov Wandering", an initiative of the Bardejov Tourist Information Center (TIK Bardejov). It is a monthly walking tour focused on sites of Bardejov's history.

A few years ago, Pavol and Peter Hudak used this platform to organize a yearly tour focused on Bardejov’s Jewish sites, they called it "Bardejov Jewish Wanderings". Their tours attracted many interested people who visited the Jewish Suburbia, the archeological digs in the Mikveh, and more.

Mr. Bogol has cared for the Synagogue since Mayer Spira–the last Jew in Bardejov–died in 2005. During the tour, he shared information about the Jewish Cemetery and Jewish burial rituals in Bardejov.

More than 50 Bardejov residents showed up despite the cold weather and were very interested to learn about Bardejov’s Jewish past. Especially interesting and rewarding was the opportunity to see the inside of the "OHEL”, the special burial site within the cemetery where the Halberstam Rabbis from Bardejov are buried. Please enjoy some photos from the latest tour below.
