The film, telling the notable story of Refuel Lowy and the Typhoid Rescue Plan is the initiative of Mr. Emil A. Fish: “The film BARDEJOV, is based on a true story in the town of Bardejov during the Holocaust. What happened there and my ongoing support of telling the story of Jewish Heritage in Bardejov has been a lifelong focus of mine, as many of you very well know. The film I produced is a true story about how Refuel Lowy, the head of the Jewish community and a wine maker, meets with the Jewish council to plan an action against the Slovak Hlinka Guard’s orders. The main order required that all unmarried girls in the town must present themselves for work in a shoe factory in the East, with no exception. After Lowy discovers there is no shoe factory and the girls will be taken to Auschwitz, they plan to save the girls. I am very proud of how this film turned out. It is a compelling story, a well-done dramatic feature directed by Danny A. Abeckaser.”
The film will be available for purchase and streamed online
starting March 19th

A Slovak nonprofit organization is focusing on documenting stories of Slovak rescuers and survivors during WWII
|
|
The Testimonium organization, led by radio journalist Ms. Dagmar Mozolová, records and documents the authentic memories of people who saved others during the Holocaust, and also those who were saved. The stories have been broadcast on Radio Slovakia in a series called "Encyclopedia of the Righteous".
The mission of Testimonium is to record the stories of those who can still tell them so they can be shared. Testimonium created an archive of the recordings, in Slovak, for future generations, historians, researchers, and all who want to learn from firsthand memories about what happened during the war years and the Holocaust.
Recently they have expanded their recordings to film documentaries, and last year they produced a docudrama, "Mamicka", about the brave Zuzana Dermeková who saved two-year-old Zorka during WWII.
Between 2019 and 2022, Testimonium interviewed 40 people from families of rescuers and the rescued, and they have contact information of about 70 more that they would like to record.
If you know of Slovaks who rescued people during the Holocaust, or those who have been rescued by Slovaks, please let us know, and please spread the word about Testimonium's activities so hopefully more stories can be found. To read more: https://testimonium.sk/
