Advanced Opportunities Legislation
|
|
Some of you may or may not be aware of the Advanced Opportunities Legislation that was adopted several years ago by the Idaho Legislature. The Advanced Opportunity Bill provides special funds for “Public” school students to offset costs for Dual Credit, AP Testing and other overload courses. This legislation creates inequitable and advantageous opportunities for public school students that homeschool and/or private school students cannot access. Over the years, we and many others have advocated that these funds should be available to ALL KIDS in Idaho.
Over the last several years, we’ve tried various approaches and strategies with key legislators, State Departments of Education and the Office of the State Board of Education to open up this opportunity for students in private schools and in homeschool situations. Yesterday, a new Bill, S1045 was introduced to the Senate Education Committee and passed unanimously to proceed through the process.
As of right now, we are not asking our parent community for a call to action. We are making you aware with the likelihood that we will be coming back soon to ask for you to contact your representatives. All Idaho Kids deserve access to these funds.

Here is our Friday update on the COVID-19 numbers for Bishop Kelly. We have had five additional students and three faculty/staff members test positive since last Friday’s BK Alive update. We currently have 54 students and three faculty/staff members out in quarantine or isolation.
Two of those staff members who tested positive were us - Mike and Rich. It is impossible to tell where we may have picked it up. In discussions with CDH and our doctors, they all said these days it is so hard to avoid. Both of us have been diligent with the 3 W’s, have avoided social gatherings, and did not have close contact in person interaction with each other or other staff members right before or after our symptoms began. Finally, we will both be recovering at home this week and into next week. We and our families would appreciate your prayers.
Final thoughts
We are grateful to each of you as you are a vital part of our school community. Thank you for all you have done in partnership with us to make this school year so successful. And please continue to stay laser focused on consistently practicing the 3 W's and avoiding gatherings to minimize exposures. These are the things we can and must do to minimize COVID-19 cases and exposures.
God bless,

The Knights for Life Club
Tyler Stoker, Gabby Rinker, Nicole Graefe, and Alyson Chou
Faith, Community
These students have shown incredible leadership and courage all week in representing Knights For Life. They have led our school in closure prayer each day praying for the sick, homeless, imprisoned and the unborn. They have also been asked to continue the Wednesday rosary on B days. Thank you for standing up for life and praying for our school.
BK Staff of the Week
Mrs. Stephany Herrera
Community, Faith
- There are far too many reasons to list why she is so deserving of this recognition. Beyond her incredible leadership skills, extremely dedicated work ethic and her commitment to always putting students first, she has also been instrumental on this week's focus on bringing important attention to various Life Issues. In addition to being one of the assistant principals, Mrs. Herrera serves at the moderate for the Knights for Life club. Thank you for your amazing efforts Mrs. Herrera, you are incredible!
- Mrs. Herrera has provided constant support for the Knights for Life club despite her many other things to do as Vice Principal. She is so supportive of our ideas and helps us to know how to take action. Mrs. Herrera has helped us all to grow as leaders and taught us skills that will be valuable for the rest of our lives. I can't thank her enough for all she has done!
- Mrs. Herrera is always on time to our meetings and has the best contributions and ideas. Knights for Life wouldn't be the same without her!
- Mrs. Herrera is always super uplifting and encouraging. She is very resourceful and I love having her involved in Knights for Life. Thanks Mrs. Herrera for making our club feel like a family and helping our plans be a possibility.

2021 - 2022 Registration for New and Existing Students
|
|
It is time to register for the 2021 - 2022 school year!
For our existing families with no new students, you should have received an email from TADS, our tuition management website, to start your new tuition agreement. These emails should have arrived in your mailbox on Tuesday the 19th.
If you have a new student to register, you can save yourself a bunch of time this year! If you log into your Infinite Campus portal, your family's information will already be filled out. You just need to provide your new student's birth certificate, immunization records, report card/transcript and course request form. To access this, log into the portal (at campus.bk.org) then click on "More" in the left menu, then click on 'Online Registration". Then just follow the directions from there.

Boise State University Scholarship Opportunity
|
|
Applicants must:
- have an entry-level GPA of at least 3.0
- declare a major in the College of Art and Sciences
- be enrolled as a full-time (12+ credits) BSU student.
If your son or daughter meets the criteria, their Boise State application must be submitted by February 15 AND they must complete the general scholarship application by that date in order to be automatically considered in the applicant pool.
This is a significant, renewable, award (if criteria continues to be met). Although it is titled as the "Mary Ellen Callanan Literature Scholarship", it is not necessary to be an English or Lit Major, but the major must definitely be part of the College of Arts and Sciences. Award recipient will be notified in May.

Speech and Debate
Your BK Speech and Debate Team hit the ground running for 2021 with an excellent showing at last weekend’s Running with the Bulls Invitational hosted by Mountain View HS. Featuring 30 schools from across the country, the BK team showcased their talents. Leading the way were tourney champions John Mulhern (Radio Broadcast), Sarah East (Sales), and Josh Mitra (After Dinner Speaking). Contributing to the team’s tally were standout performances from Andrew Severance (Radio and Lincoln-Douglas Debate), Sarah Clevenger (Congress and After Dinner Speaking), Greg Lamey and Jude Balderson (Congress) and Maggie Avey (Sales). Not to be outdone, the Public Forum Debate team of Maddie Dixon and Josh Mitra along with Justice Walker (LD debate) took top honors. Congratulations to all team members as we launch into the heart of the season’s competitions. As always, a huge thankyou to our parent volunteers for their invaluable assistance in judging and feeding the squad; we would be lost without you. Next up, preparing for our Feb.5-6 Warhawk Invitational and recruiting efforts to grow next year’s team from a pool of talented Frosh candidates. Go, Knights!
