A Note from Bill and Sarah

Dear BK Community,

Bishop Kelly had an accreditation visit this week, November 1-3. The visiting team had leaders from: Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas), Gonzaga Prep (Spokane), Kennedy Catholic (Seattle), Juan Diego (Salt Lake City), St. John Bosco (Cottonwood, ID), and Sacred Heart (Boise). These visits happen once every six years, but they drive school improvement every day!

The accreditation process examines four key domains:

  • Mission and Catholic Identity
  • Governance and Leadership
  • Academic Excellence
  • Operational Vitality

Bishop Kelly High School has dual accreditation. Western Catholic Education Association (WCEA) conducts the visit, focused on the four domains, and determines our accreditation status. They have an agreement with Cognia, and when WCEA provides an accreditation status, we receive Cognia accreditation, as well. The Cognia accreditation is important to many of the colleges that Bishop Kelly High School students attend.

We had an excellent visit, and the team had positive feedback for Bishop Kelly High School. Thank you to everyone who contributed their time and expertise to our accreditation plan and visit, including the admin team, faculty, staff, Board of Governance members, and parent volunteers.

Knights of the Week

Each week Bishop Kelly faculty and staff nominate students, and students nominate faculty and staff, who have demonstrated the BK Way attributes of Faith, Safe and Caring Place, Academic Excellence, Activities, Honor, Generosity, Community, and Partnership.

Congratulations to this week's Knights of the Week!

Claire Bowman

Faith

When the debate team was stuck without a priest for our weekly mass, Claire took on the role of "prayer leader extraordinaire". She is a wonderful spiritual voice on the team.

Elleyna Bishop

Academic Excellence

Elleyna is an excellent student who puts her best into every assignment and discussion in class. She is a quiet leader who inspires others to do their best as well. Elleyna asks deep and thoughtful questions which raise our discussions in class to the next level.

BK Staff of the Week

Mrs. Jenny Sternling

Activities, Generosity

  • She has been working tirelessly to make a play that will be entertaining and rewarding for students. She deserves to be recognized.
  • She always works so hard to provide a wonderful play experience for both actors and crew. She stays late every night to make sure the show is perfect, and still treats her students with so much kindness. The entire cast and crew appreciates her so much!
  • She is always so nice and always makes class fun. Her positive attitude really creates an amazing environment.
  • Mrs. Sternling is so dedicated to Theatre Arts and is the best director we could ask for. Drama Club would not be drama club without her.
  • Mrs.Sternling is our fearless leader of the fall production of Alice or The Scottish Gravediggers. She has been such an important figure to all of the cast and crew, and has taught us so much about acting, directing, stage effects, and productions altogether. I have enjoyed being part of her plays so much and she means a lot to me.
  • Mrs. Sternling has been directing our play for over a month now and has done a great job at building community within our cast and crew. She has made a safe place for us to experiment and have fun!
  • Mrs. Sternling has worked hard to make theater a safe environment where everyone feels ok to pursue their passion for acting or crew.
  • Mrs. Sternling is the best director ever. As an actor in her production of Alice; or The Scottish Gravediggers, she puts in so much time and energy for her students. No other teacher cares about her students and people she leads more than Jenny Sternling. Please pick her.
  • She puts in so much time and energy into us students. We love and appreciate her.
