Letter from the Worldwide Chair

A Happy New Year to all members of BKR International. Looking ahead, 2023 promises to be an important year for BKR. The strategy work now underway will help us focus on how we want to take forward our future. I am planning to unveil it to you at our Worldwide Meeting in October. Alongside this, we are developing a new website and undergoing a re-branding process, which will enable us to ensure that our association is fit for the business requirements of your membership.
As announced in the December Worldwide E-Update, we are consolidating our member publications. This is the first of our new Worldwide Bulletins, which you will now all receive every month having combined the Bulletin and the E-Update. I will continue with my Worldwide Chair updates in the Bulletin every second month.
Our regional meetings this year will take place in Cape Town in April for the EMEA Region, and then Taipei and Mexico City in May for the Asia-Pacific and Americas Regions, respectively. Our Worldwide Meeting will be held in Georgetown, Washington, DC, in October. As well as these meetings, your regional executives will be producing their offerings tailored for each region. I will also take this opportunity to welcome our newest member of the Executive Office, Tiara Doxey, who started as the new meetings manager in New York in December.
2022 was a year where most of the globe were able to return to "business as normal." Please take the opportunity to read our 2023 Annual Report. It is on the website and will give you more details on our aspirations for this year. I hope 2023 will complete the process of normalization around the world and that we can enjoy developing our businesses to greater heights.

BKR Consolidates Member Publications

Effective January 1, BKR has merged the Worldwide Bulletin and Worldwide E-Update.

The new monthly publication retains the Worldwide Bulletin name and will provide timely information and important updates to members from all three regions of BKR International.

BKR Admits New Member Firm in Cyprus

BKR International is pleased to announce the acceptance of CYAUSE Audit Services Ltd (Nicosia) into membership.

Founded in 2011, CYAUSE Audit Services Ltd provides audit, accounting, tax, and a variety of other professional services for both companies and individuals. The firm specializes in international business companies, the services sector, Cyprus forex and investment firms (CIFs), the travel sector, real estate and construction, the retail and consumer niches, funding programs, and high net worth individuals. With one partner and a staff of seven, CYAUSE Audit Services Ltd has an additional office in Limassol, Cyprus.

Aaron Meli Joins Tri-Mer Services Limited (Malta) as Equity Partner and Company Director

Tri-Mer Services Limited has strengthened its leadership with the appointment of Aaron Meli as equity partner and as a director of the company following his approval by the MFSA.

Ian and Marco Mercieca, managing partners at Tri-Mer, said that they are “extremely proud to welcome Mr. Meli to the partnership, bringing an important skill set and experience to the table.”

They stated that his “appointment is a key investment in the future of the firm and will continue to assist in the company’s growth and add value to the services [they] provide to new and existing clients,” adding that this “is also a testament to the professionalism he has shown over the last 10 years with the firm.”

The Mriehel-based firm offers corporate and personal assurance and tax solutions to clients operating their business in Malta or wishing to relocate to Malta.
UNW LLP (Newcastle upon Tyne) Invests in Corporate Finance Business with New Partner Appointment

North East independent chartered accountancy and business advisory firm UNW LLP has announced the appointment of another experienced dealmaker with Nick Broadhead joining as corporate finance partner to further strengthen the company’s successful corporate finance business.

Nick arrives at UNW following 12 years at KPMG in Newcastle upon Tyne, where he worked nationally with a variety of businesses in the technology media and telecoms, leisure, retail and wholesale, business services, and healthcare sectors, specializing in private equity transactions.

A native of the North East, Nick attended school in Newcastle before studying Economics at the University of Leeds. He joined KPMG in 2010, initially training in the audit department before moving into corporate finance three years later. At KPMG, Nick gained significant experience in strategic decision making, finance raising, and all aspects of mergers and acquisitions.

Nick joins UNW as the firm’s third corporate finance partner appointment of the year, following the arrival of Paul Mankin in February 2022 as chair of corporate finance, and Chris Wilson as head of corporate finance in August 2022.

Speaking of his motivations for joining UNW, Nick said, “This is a particularly unique opportunity to develop the corporate finance business at a premier regional independent firm. To see a firm investing heavily in its senior team – as UNW has done this year – speaks volumes about its commitment to enhancing the breadth and depth of experience that can be drawn upon when advising new and existing clients.

Anchin, Block & Anchin LLP (New York) Adds Experienced Talent to Fuel Further Growth in its Private Client and Real Estate Groups

Anchin, Block & Anchin LLP is pleased to announce that two experienced professionals have recently joined the firm. Kevin Brown has joined as a principal in the firm's Private Client Group, and Erica Cohen as a director in the Real Estate Group. These additions to the management group provide new capabilities and a breadth of experience.

This announcement concludes a year of several exciting developments for Anchin. In 2022, the firm opened an office in Boca Raton, Florida; brought on four experienced professionals; was again named a Best Place to Work in New York City, New York State, and nationally; and promoted 16 individuals to partner, director, and senior manager levels. All these actions are indicative of Anchin's commitment to serving its expanding and sophisticated client base.

Kevin Brown, EA, TEP, is a principal within Anchin's Private Client Group. He specializes in assisting high net worth individuals and families, investors, and businesses, particularly from the UK and Europe, navigate the complex world of US federal, state, and local taxation. Kevin works closely with owners of businesses to help strategize and plan succession, funding, and exits to support and maximize their financial situation.

Kevin acts as a key international tax advisor to his clients and their businesses across a broad range of industries, with a particular focus on technology; entertainment; public relations, advertising, and media; and professional services. He specifically helps high net worth families with US in-bound tax planning at the shareholder and business level to maximize any available tax savings. He also advises extensively on qualified small business stock exemptions, and trust and estate tax planning to protect familial generational wealth.

Erica Cohen, CPA, is an audit director in Anchin's Real Estate Group. She has more than 10 years of experience providing assurance, advisory, tax, and accounting services to privately held companies, primarily in the real estate industry. Erica serves clients in commercial and residential real estate, affordable housing projects, real estate development, real estate funds, and hospitality and service organizations.

With 2023 around the corner, Anchin looks forward to continuing to build a team of the highest quality professionals to enable continuing exceptional client service.
