At Afriware Books we celebrate Black History Month ALL YEAR LONG!!! This month we are featuring some books on the content removed from Florida's proposed AP History Class. Author Robin D. G. Kelley was interviewed on WBUR's "Here & Now" podcast which mentions that his 2016 essay entitled, "Black Study, Black Struggle" was removed from the class. Some of the authors mentioned in the essay are C.L. R. James, Angela Davis, Chancellor Williams, James Baldwin, Frantz Fannon, Walter Rodney, and George G. M. James. In that article he stated, "The most radical ideas often grow out of a concrete intellectual engagement with the problems of aggrieved populations confronting systems of oppression." Dr. Kelley also discusses Mississippi's Freedom Schools who purpose was "to create 'an educational experience for students which will make it possible for them to challenge the myths of our society, to perceive more clearly its realities and to find alternatives, and ultimately, new directions for action.'"
