REMEMBERING OUR LEGACY

Shirley Anita Chisholm the first African American woman to be elected to the United States Congress. Congresswoman Chisholm ran for President of the United States and Sandré was one of Congresswoman Chisholm’s California Delegates to the Democratic Party National Convention.

Ronald V Dellums thirteen term Congressman, first African American elected to Congress from Northern California. Peace activists, civil rights leader who became the powerful Chair of the House Armed Services Committee. He prioritized housing, pay and benefits for servicemembers, veterans, and their families. Congressman Dellums was a celebrated world leader against apartheid, the system of institutionalized racial segregation, in South Africa. Sandré served as Congressman Dellums District Director and Senior Policy Advisor. 

Coretta Scott King an American author, activist, and civil rights leader and the wife of Martin Luther King Jr. Sandré welcomed her to Oakland California in support of our youth programs.
