Hello everyone,
Where has the summer gone? Crazy to think we are in the final month of the 2024 muskie season. As the temps begin to fall, the best time of the year to find the biggest fish is here. I would like to remind everyone to think safety, things can happen quickly with ice forming at boat ramps, docks and decks of the boat, let's be as prepared as possible.
We wrapped up our MHOTY events the last weekend of October on Lake Roosevelt, no fish were boated. We did have a good time telling fish stories and a meal after at the Pickled Loon. This year's WINNER of the MHOTY is Nathan Stifter, with a 36" fish from an early event on Roosevelt. For those that don't know Nathan is my younger brother (not little brother).
The Fall is when most muskies get stocked. We have heard that Cedar, Roosevelt and Gull all got some fish this year. It's always good to get more fish in our systems.
The holidays are right around the corner, we will be doing a food drive again this year at the November meeting. Please bring a canned or non perishable food item, all donations will be brought to Lakes Area Food Shelves. Also, keep in mind we will be doing a Toy/Food drive at the December meeting.
Good Luck to all the deer hunters heading out to the woods this weekend.

The BLC is doing something new this year - the past handful of years, we have collected items for the Lakes Area food shelf and Toys-For-Kids program in the month of December. Food insecurity is an issue at all times of the year and the BLC would like to help support those in need for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday.
Bring in $10 worth of shelf stable items or cash to be entered in a drawing for a $10 MTO gift card. For every $10 you donate at the November monthly meeting, you’ll get one entry for the drawing.
If you aren’t able to attend the meeting in November or December, consider helping out our community by donating non-perishable items to your local food shelf, or consider donating your time to help those in need.
Food donation suggestions:
- Canned veggies
- Rice
- Dried beans
- Coffee/tea
- Spices (salt, pepper, garlic powder, etc.)
- Baking items (flour, sugar, powdered sugar, etc.)
- Cooking oil
- Boxed milk
- Quick and easy meals (chow mein, canned soup, hamburger helper, manwich, etc.)
- Dish soap

Jeff Young Memorial - 2024 Muskie Shootout

The 2024 Jeff Young Memorial Muskie Shootout is a wrap! The weather, in particular the strong and gusty winds, made this one a challenge. We made a last minute change to our rules to allow teams to fish as safely as possible. But the conditions presented major challenges for anglers. Still, a few teams were able to put some fish on the board!
We want to extend a huge thank you to our amazing hosts for this event at Agency Bay Lodge, all of the manufacturers that contributed product for our raffles, those that assisted with organizing and putting on this tournament, and of course, all of the participants that joined us this year.
Congratulations to the 2024 winners, Greg Kappes and Matt Olson who boated a 46" fish on day one, which was enough to hold down the top spot.
- The dates for next year's event are set for October 4-5, 2025, back at Agency Bay Lodge.

Congrats to Nathan Stifter on winning the 2024 BLC Muskie Hunter of the Year honors! Nathan caught the second largest fish during our outings this year with a 36" fish on Lake Roosevelt. This helped him secure top honors for the year, just edging out Andy Steffen who caught a 37.5" fish on Lake Waconia. Fishing more outings and picking up his attendance points helped Nathan squeak out the victory. Thank you to all that participated in our 2024 outings. We will be doing it again in 2025 and we hope that you'll join us at one or all of them!

BLC 21st Annual Sportsman's Banquet

| We have secured a date for our 21st Annual Sportsman's Banquet for March 22, 2025. We will be heading back to Cragun's, but we will be at the Pine Ballroom at the main resort rather than the Legacy Pavilion. This room has a bit more space and should allow us some additional flexibility with what we do. Clear your calendar to join us on March 22nd. Catch a 50”+ muskie during the 2024 Muskie season, or catch your FIRST muskie and automatically get in for an annual, commemorative shirt!
Here’s how it works:
- You must be a current member in good standing as of the time the fish was caught
- Submit a release form, minimum, to the BLC
Send us your photos - we’d love to be able to post these to social media, use in the newsletter, submit to MUSKIE magazine, use at the end of the year, and more! These photos can be of any fish caught throughout the season, not just the biggest fish - all Muskies matter!
