December 2013

Greetings from

Barrio Logan College Institute

Wow! What energy! What a great way to kick off this holiday season! On November 14th we had the joy of hosting our friends, supporters, and the larger Barrio Logan community at BLCI's Open House at the Nat and Flora Bosa Campus, our new location, along with our friends and partners - The Monarch School. We had an amazing turn out. Students stood by their posters and presented their most important BLCI lessons. Parents provided home cooked meals for our guests. The Aztlan Car club served us a celebratory cake. And our guests assured our students that all their hard work was going to pay off, BIG!  Click here to read more about our Open House.

In this issue of College Steps:

  • BLCI's 4th College Night: BLCI held its 4th College Night in October just before our big move. Students were visited by 8 colleges from different parts of California and the country.
  • BLCI's Annual College Essay Day: Our 12th grade class met this past October to polish their personal statements for college.  Our students brought their college essay drafts and were paired up with volunteers from various fields.
  • Students Attend 2013 Tedx Youth: Our high school students attended this year's TEDxYouth@SanDiego designed to bring to life the power of ideas and the spirit of a future!

Help us Launch Into the Future Today

"In the future, I want to be a mechanical engineer because I like cars and I'm good at math. I want to go to SDSU and get a college diploma so I can help my parents. I want to thank BLCI for all their support."

-Salomon Perez, 4th grade

Please get on board and join us as we launch into the future by making a contribution to BLCI as we strive to create more spaces where students like Salomon can dream.  Click here to read about how your support of BLCI has made a positive impact in the live of Salomon and other students just like him.

All donations directly support our student and family programs. If you prefer to donate by check, please mail your donation to the address below.

This year once again, thanks to our friends at The Donald C. and Elizabeth M. Dickinson Foundation, you can double your investment. Each investment will be matched dollar for dollar up to $12,500 if received before December 31st, 2013!
