School Delay and Closure Policies 2020/2021

Dear Miner families, in light of the increased school closures with our school district counterparts, we’ve received questions regarding our school closure and delay policies. We do not anticipate closures at this time but feel it’s important to clearly communicate our process should the school need to close.

Below please find some helpful information regarding the school’s closure and delay policies for this 2020/2021 school year. With added safety measures surrounding COVID-19, we have updated these policies to reflect our current school year and safety procedures.

How will I be notified if the school is closing?

If we have not informed our school community of closure the day before, parents will receive a text message, phone call, and email no later than 5:00 am on the day of the closure. We understand this is very early in the morning, however, we want to be as accommodating as possible to our families who commute to school from longer distances. Additionally, we will post on our website, Bishop Manogue social media accounts, and notify local news media of any abrupt closures or delays.

When will I be notified if the school is closing or on a delay?

Our goal is to notify our school community as soon as possible with any schedule change. Sometimes, we do not have the information necessary to make the decision to close until the morning of school. If it is the same day closure, we will notify you no later than 5:00 am. If we know ahead of time that we will be closing, we will notify the day before or as soon as possible.

Will classes be held virtually if there is a school closure?

Yes. Unless otherwise noted, we will continue instruction virtually. This way, no learning will be lost and we will not need to make up for class time missed due to the building being closed

What are the reasons the school would close?

While we cannot anticipate every single reason the school might close. Here are some plausible scenarios in which the school administration would decide to close the building.

  • Inclement weather
  • Unforeseen building maintenance or repairs
  • Unforeseen safety concerns on campus
  • An insufficient number of faculty members and substitutes who can be present on campus (due to COVID-19 quarantine, potential exposure, or infections)
  • An insufficient number of administrators who can be present on campus (due to COVID-19 quarantine, potential exposure, or infection)
  • A large number of infected or potentially exposed students on campus
  • An infectious disease outbreak including but not limited to COVID-19, influenza, and pertussis

For Students
School lunches can be paid for in cash or loaded onto the student's lunch account. Find out how to add to their account HERE.
Contact Cindy Merritt with any account questions.

Students and parents, please use the Miner Block Request Form to meet with teachers during Miner Block. For Parents
Senior Parents!

Welcome to Senior Year 2020-2021! We are so excited for you and your child as we celebrate this milestone year. We have two amazing senior moms, Courtney Guillen and Luz Molina-Wilkerson, who are working to prepare senior events in accordance with our regulations. They will be gaining access to senior parents' contact information in order to plan for senior festivities, so if you do not want your contact information shared, please let Jane Festa know this week!
How to Access Your Digital Books

Thank you for joining the Bishop Manogue Family! We are very excited to have you and look forward to the upcoming school year. Find instructions HERE on how to access your digital textbooks once they have been ordered from our Virtual Bookstore, MBS Direct.
Virtual Attendance Code

We use two codes to indicate present students this year - Present or TEP. If you see TEP on your son/daughter's record, that indicates a day he/she was present virtually. This is still counted as fully present. It gives parents and administrators a way to track who is on campus on any given day for contact tracing and safety. Stay safe Miners!

What's Up with Athletics?

Due to COVID-19, the NIAA has made considerable adjustments to the 2020-21 Athletics Calendar, see below. The full rationale for the NIAA’s decision is HERE.

  • Winter Sports practices will begin Jan. 2, 2021; last contest Feb. 20, 2021
  • Fall Sports practices will begin Feb. 20, 2021; last contest April 10, 2021
  • Spring Sports practices will begin April 3, 2021; last contest May 22, 2021

These new dates will mean quick, condensed seasons, and the possibility of extended pre-season activities. We want all of our athletes to be cleared and ready to participate in pre-season the moment they are able, be sure to get your Clearance Requirements done.

Find out how HERE.

If you run into problems, email jackie.cavilia@bishopmanogue.org. And if you have any questions about Athletics in the time of COVID-19, don’t hesitate to contact us.

Parents

We need parent volunteers for school lunches! Volunteers will need to undergo COVID-19 training and contact Bonnie Hansen at (775)336-6000 or Greg at (775)336-6098 to confirm availability.

Remember, the Diocese of Reno has mandatory requirements for volunteering at all Diocesan schools, including Bishop Manogue, and you cannot earn service hours until those requirements have been met. Contact Bonnie Hansen at  bonnie.hansen@bishopmanogue.org  or 775-336-6000 with questions.

Parents will have to enroll in Protecting God's Children through Virtus and stay up to date on monthly bulletins for two years. After the two years, you have completed all the necessary bulletins. This transfers over from any of the Diocesan schools. If you are still receiving bulletins after two complete years, contact Elda Juarez at  eldaj@catholicreno.org  to be removed from the update list.
