CMBE 2020 features educational outreach, high-level talks and prestigious awards

The New Year kicked off with another successful Cellular and Molecular Bioengineering Conference, organized by BMES' first special interest group CMBE. 

The four-day conference in Puerto Rico included 7 keynote speakers, 14 invited speakers, and 135 abstracts programmed into poster and podium presentations.

A diverse group of seven students and post docs received travel awards and gave podium presentations. The SIG also awarded eight junior faculty with the prestigious Rising Star award. 

The program included educational outreach, where 20 students from local universities in Puerto Rico were invited and sponsored to attend the conference.  


BMES now accepting 2020 Annual Meeting special session submission requests

BMES is now accepting requests for special sessions for the 2020 BMES Annual Meeting in San Diego.

Any BMES Member, Committee or Special Interest Group (SIG) interested in organizing a Special Session (panel, workshop or symposium) at the 2020 BMES Annual Meeting in San Diego must submit a special session request form for consideration by Friday, February 21, 2020. 

Approved Special Session requests include panels, workshops or symposia that are often tied to the meeting theme and meeting objectives and that DO NOT fit within an existing track.


BMES award applications open Feb. 15

BMES will begin accepting award applications February 15, 2020. 

The deadline to submit an application is May 15, 2020.

BMES awards include: 

  • Robert A. Pritzker Distinguished Lecture Award - $12,000 award
  • BMES Mid-Career Award - $5,000 award
  • Rita Schaffer Young Investigator Award - $5,000 award
  • Diversity Lecture Award - $1,000 award

Advanced Biomanufacturing abstract DEADLINE EXTENDED: Due February 4

Abstracts for the 2020 Advanced Biomanufacturing Conference are now due February 4, 2020

The ABioM Conference will take place March 30 to April 1, 2020 in College Park, MD.
 
The theme of the 2020 conference is " Accelerating Advanced Biomanufacturing Through Discovery to Implementation."
 

BMES - Medtronic 2020 Student Design Competition to award prize money & Annual Meeting travel reimbursements

Biomedical Engineering Society student members can now apply to the 2020 Annual Design Contest, sponsored by Medtronic. 

This year's topic, Med Devices, has been left as broad as possible to allow students involved in various tracks of research to submit to the competition. 

Awardees will receive (Top 3 teams only)

  • First place design wins $1,500 with up to $1,500 in travel reimbursement
  • Second place design wins $1,000 with up to $750 in travel reimbursement
  • Third place wins $500 with up to $500 in travel reimbursement
Deadline to submit an application: June 30, 2020


SAVE THE DATE: Call for BMES Coulter College team applications opens in February

BMES Coulter College is a training program focused on translation of biomedical innovations that is funded through a grant from the Wallace H. Coulter Foundation. 

The program will take place August 6-9, 2020 at Medtronic in Minneapolis, MN. This is the third year BMES has partnered with Medtronic to host the program at their facilities in Minnesota. 

BMES Coulter College team applications will be due on Friday, March 13, 2020.
