New Cell Phone and Electronics Policy

Beachwood Schools has updated its electronics policy to align with House Bill 250, which mandates public schools to limit cell phone use during the school day. The details of the Beachwood Middle School Policy are included below and can be found in the 2024-2025 Student Parent-Handbook. Additional information and resources can be found on the Ohio Department of Education website.

Cell Phones and Electronic Devices Policy:

To support a school environment in which students can fully engage with their classmates, teachers, and instruction, the use of cell phones and other smart devices (watches, tablets, etc.) are prohibited during the school day. If a student violates this policy, a staff member will take one or more of the following progressively serious disciplinary measures:

  • Place the student’s device in the main office for the remainder of the day. Student will be allowed to collect the device at dismissal time.
  • Place the student’s device in the main office to be picked up by the student’s parent or guardian.
  • Schedule a conference with the student’s parent or guardian to discuss the student’s device usage. The student must turn their cell phone into the office for two weeks at the beginning of the day. The device will be returned to the student at the end of each school day.

Any student’s willful refusal or failure to relinquish any device upon a staff member’s request will result in additional disciplinary consequences (Reference: Page 54, No. 9: Insubordination).

Reminder: Vaccines for Rising Seventh Graders

The State of Ohio requires that all incoming seventh-grade students have BOTH the Tdap vaccine and the Meningococcal MCV4 PRIOR to entering seventh grade.

Tdap is an adolescent preparation of tetanus and diphtheria toxoids and acellular pertussis (whooping cough) vaccine. The Meningococcal MCV4 vaccine helps to protect against the bacteria that cause meningococcal disease.

According to the State of Ohio, the school will need an updated immunization record for your child that proves that he/she has received BOTH the Tdap and Meningococcal MCV4 vaccines PRIOR to the first day of school for the 2024-2025 school year. Please send the updated record to me as soon as possible. Any student not in compliance at the end of that time period will not be able to return to school until the requirements are met.
