NLBMDA Celebrates National
Homeownership Month

The National Lumber and Building Material Dealers Association celebrates President Donald Trump's proclamation that June is National Homeownership Month. NLBMDA is committed to working with Congress and the Administration on policies that help more Americans achieve the dream of owning a home.
Homeownership remains a priority for many Americans. According to the United States Census Bureau, the share of Americans who own their homes was 63.6 percent for the first quarter of 2017. Moreover, in a recent national Gallup survey, nearly seven in 10 non-home owners expect to buy a home within the next 10 years.
Preservation of the mortgage-interest deduction plays an important role in helping households of all income levels become homeowners. NLBMDA supports the tax incentive and opposes efforts to reduce or eliminate it as part of comprehensive tax reform.
Reforming burdensome regulations would also increase the nation's homeownership rate. A study from the National Association of Home Builders indicates that regulations imposed by government at all levels accounts for 24.3 percent of the final price of a new single-family home built for sale.
Extending Credit Requires Attention to Accounts Receivable

If you start selling on credit you're going to need to make accounts receivable management a priority. A/R management is much more than simply sending invoices and recording payment, it takes a lot of time and energy to do it right and avoid bad-debt write offs, invoice disputes, and late payments.

You may even feel as though you need to hire another employee to keep up with it all. This is not always the case; there are plenty of tactics, tools, and simple process adjustments you can implement to help you quickly collect invoices without hiring any additional hands or letting money slip through the cracks. Advantages and Disadvantages of Offering Trade Credit

Trade credit is offered by many suppliers to trade channel buyers to encourage more frequent and higher volume purchases. Smaller companies with limited cash on hand often rely on trade credit to make inventory purchases on a regular basis. Trade credit has benefits to both the buyer and seller, but it also has some disadvantages.

More Sales
From the perspective of the creditor, or supplier, trade credit should induce more sales over time by allowing customers to make purchases without immediate cash. This flexibility in purchasing methods also encourages customers to make larger purchases when prices are right than they might if they had to pay cash upfront. Along with higher sales volume, trade credit often produces interest fees and late payment fees for creditors, which increases revenue. Read more.
