To our Beacon Families,
While we continue to navigate this unique and dynamic time, we want to reassure you that as an educational community, we are deeply committed to continuing to reach and meet the needs of each of our learners. Our entire staff has spent the last three days planning and preparing for the remote learning environment that all of us will embark upon with our students beginning Tuesday, April 7. Although this is a new experience for all of us, we as Beacon educators are far ahead of most of our peers as a result of our strong focus on Blended Learning and Personalized Learning as pillars of our academic programming. Similarly, our students are well versed in using technology as a vital component of their daily tasks. We appreciate your trust and cooperation as we traverse this unknown landscape together.

We are well aware that many of you have numerous commitments to prioritize during this time, and working with your Beacon student is only one of those tasks. In an effort to honor the complexities of these circumstances, we are suggesting students limit their academic screen time to no more than  three hours each weekday. Please refer to the Beacon Network Schools website and/or your student’s Moodle account for additional instructions and tips to maximize the productivity and promote a positive setting during the remote learning phase. Our staff is ready to assist you with questions and concerns, and each teacher will be available during posted Office Hours.

I cannot over emphasize that we are all in this as a community and our highest priority is staying connected to our students in order to further their learning, expand their experiences and effectively prepare them for the next level of their educational journey.

As previously scheduled, Spring Break officially begins on Monday, March 30 for all DPS schools. We hope your families are able to find time to simply relax in this climate of great stress and unpredictability. We will continue to be in touch with you regularly in the weeks to come and simultaneously, we welcome your feedback, insight and reflections as we walk through the days and weeks ahead.

Sending you peace of mind and continued health,
Alex Magãna
