Since The Marina at Dana Point issued its "Thanksgiving" newsletter on November 24th, we have received a lot of comments from boaters. One boater succinctly summarized the heartfelt emotions of the majority of boaters in Dana Point.
"The recent letter from the DPHP/Marina Manager is a gut punch. We have been in the harbor for over 15 years, and I have yet to know any fellow boaters who agree, understand or approve of the rate increase. For them to state "the vast majority of tenants have expressed understanding of the necessity of the rate increase and noted it's still one of the best deals around" and "show of support from our Orange County community excited about the revitalization and anxious to be a part of the Dana Point boater community" I believe is misleading and a blatant lie. It is just a matter of time that we, like many, will be forced out of our slip and the harbor because of high costs and the dishonest greedy DPHP."
Shame on you, Dana Point Harbor Partners, for being so out of touch with the Dana Point Community at large. Public sentiment is not on your side, no matter how you spin it. Definition of Greed from Wikipedia: "Greed is an uncontrolled longing for increase in the acquisition or use of material gain; or social value, such as status, or power. Greed has been identified as undesirable throughout known human history because it creates behavior-conflict between personal and social goals."
Shame on you, Orange County Board of Supervisors, and Orange County Executives for allowing this travesty to happen in Dana Point. When will one of you get a backbone to open the door to discuss other options? Who will do the right thing? Election 2022 is going to be interesting.
For other marinas up and down the West coast looking to revitalize, run, run, as fast as you can from anything resembling a Public/Private Partnership. If this trend continues to travel North or South, there will no longer be affordable boating in CA. Shall we start calling our coast the California Riviera?
Would you pay over $2000.00 per month for any of the below slips? The Marina at Dana Point expects you to do so. They aren't maintaining the slips, and they aren't building new ones. The revitalization keeps getting pushed back. What are they doing other than banking money?
