HELLO EVERYONE

There is lots going on at the moment. I am working hard on some exhibition work, with one looming deadline, planning next years programme of courses, visiting exhibitions and so much more.

I think I will start with Matthew Harris, who has a course here at the end of the month with still a couple of places left. Matthew is an inspirational tutor who delivers first rate experiences for the students. This is a new course to Moor Hall, so if you have not booked, what are you waiting for? Could be a great pressie for a loved one or why not treat yourself?

Adventures in drawing and making for textiles

‘Play continues to be a big factor in my studio, because that’s how one allows oneself to move in directions which one could not have foreseen’    Richard Serra

This workshop delivered by Matthew will explore adventurous and playful ways in which to gather and manipulate visual imagery, both two and three dimensionally, in order to develop ideas for textiles.

Through the processes of, drawing, painting, stencilling, collage etc, you will create a collection of visual information that exploits colour, line, shape and pattern.

This gathered material will then be subject to a series of dynamic activities which take as there starting point the ‘verb list’ of the artist Richard Serra. By subjecting both drawn image and textile materials to these series of actions, we will endeavour to explore the potential of both image and materials to do unexpected and surprising things.

SOUNDS EXCITING DOESN'T IT?

Below you will see what some my art groups (Moor Art 1 & 2) have been up to this past term. Our theme was 'Weaving our way to Colour'. The students started with simple exercises in creating weaves from plain and textured cut papers and then drawing the weaves created.

A major A2 tonal composition was then embarked upon and when completed a colour study in acrylic was carried out.

Some of the above are still being worked on and I am still waiting to see the colour versions of the following few drawings!!!!!

Please comment if you like, on any of the images above as the students would love to hear your comments. Some are total beginners to art and I am really chuffed with their efforts.

AN ON-LINE COURSE

presented and taught by

BOBBY BRITNELL

William Scott is another one of my favourite artists who gained notoriety in the 1950's with his abstract paintings of still-lifes in which he reduced his subject matter right down to a few basic lines. He valued the importance of 'space' in his compositions and it is these elements that we shall explore in paper, cloth and stitch.

EXPLORATORY TEXTILES

a monthly face to face day course

Bobby Britnell

A course where students use the 'sketchbook' to explore their own themes, through sampling, note taking, research and testing out ideas. This is done through drawing and sampling and works with cloth and stitch.

It is very much about 'going on a journey without knowing the final destination'.
