Exhalation by Ted Chiang, one of the New York Times “Ten Best Books” of 2019, is a collection of beautifully written, thoughtfully crafted short stories that, according to former President Barack Obama, “will make you think, grapple with big questions, and feel more human. The best kind of science fiction.”

The Candy House by Jennifer Egan. What if you could have access to every memory of your lifetime in exchange for making your memories available to others? In a dazzling array of literary styles, Egan explores the consequences of “externalized memory” for characters in a complex web of relationships as they grapple with the deeply human longing for connection, privacy, and redemption.
