Bolts U12 Revolution Development League for 2019-2020

Boston Bolts announce their participation in the new Boys U12 Revolution Development League for 2019-2020.  After U.S. Soccer disbanded their Boys Under-12 Development Academy Program, local club leaders created a league to provide the same developmental step for players looking to play at the highest level in the region.

The Revolution Development League, sanctioned and supported by US Club Soccer, is structured to promote high-level localized competition and game day experience from the leading clubs in the area. The league will feature 8-10 regionalized games in New England in both the fall and spring seasons, featuring crossover weekend games with other MLS development leagues. The competition will also involve tournament weekends for outside competition.

According to Marco Koolman, Bolts Executive Technical Director and Director of Coaching, "Providing consistency and an optimal competitive game environment, is imperative for our young, talented Bolts players. This format allows all U12 participating clubs, including the Bolts, to continue to compete as we have in the past, apart from the support of US Soccer.  The Bolts unique competitive advantage and elite status in the New England soccer community, including its Complete Player Pathway and full Development Academy, and our sole professional affiliation with AS Roma and participation in the Roma US National Showcase, will remain intact."

The seven clubs participating from the New England region in the ground-breaking league include Bayside FC, Boston Bolts, Global Premier Soccer, NEFC, Oakwood SC, Seacoast United, and Valeo FC. The Revolution Development League for the Under-12 age group is set to kick off with these seven New England-based clubs on Sept. 7, 2019.

Pre-Professional Competition to Serve as Forerunner to USL Academy League

The United Soccer League is proud to announce the 33 USL clubs that will compete in the USL Academy Cup, a new event beginning this year featuring the country's elite youth players from the U-13 and U-17 age groups. This announcement comes off the back of the unveiling of the league's vision for an Academy system and begins with the Academy Cup serving as a forerunner to the first-ever USL Academy League, built to provide a clear youth-to-pro path in each USL community.
"This year's cup competition is the first big step towards building a league model for all of our academies," said USL CEO Alec Papadakis. "As is indicated by both the number and quality of teams participating, there is a tremendous amount of enthusiasm for what we're looking to accomplish. We see this as an integral part of our organization, and the foundation of this league for years to come."
The cup competition will see academy teams from all three levels of the USL represented, with clubs from the Championship, League One, and League Two all competing against one another. These events will be designed to better identify and accelerate the development of elite youth players with the potential to reach the professional ranks.
"The USL Academy Cup presents another opportunity for our talented Bolts youth players to compete against top clubs in the country. We want to maximize the environment in which we are able to expose our players to high level competition to display their talents. The Bolts are the only Massachusetts club that offer this unparalleled opportunity to our players in the U13 & U17 age groups," said Marco Koolman, Bolts Director of Coaching.

The makeup of the competition will include 22 teams representing the USL Championship, with three League One clubs and eight League Two clubs rounding out a growing footprint that already reaches 21 states across the country.
As a part of USL's growth, the Academy Cup will lead into the Academy League, a player-focused, club-driven league designed to serve as the gold standard of youth development. Aligning with the USL's vision, clubs will participate at the highest level of competition in their respective age ranges with a goal to improve club and coaching development as well as provide the optimal environment for player growth.
