PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE - HERE'S TO BUILDING A BRIGHTER FUTURE FOR BOMA OC MEMBERS
Dear BOMA OC Members:

Well, I can’t believe I’m saying this already, yet welcome to 2022! Following an eventful 2021, just as we thought we were heading in a vastly improved direction, the winds changed once again. Fortunately, being commercial real estate experts, we are always prepared for the unforeseen.

This upcoming year is an ideal opportunity to show what we learned during the pandemic, value personal interaction with our peers and allied partners, and fully realize how crucial both education and the substantial backing of an exceptional organization, like BOMA International, truly is.

2022 is set to be the year when we share the best practices and new ideas, aspire to elevate higher, grow stronger than we have ever been prior, and continue to protect the vitality of our industry. We remain the professional and resilient faces of commercial real estate, and we have a very bright future ahead of us!

ON THE MENU - HOW TO WIN A TOBY WITH PEGGY SANCHEZ
On January 19 the Education Committee hosted a virtual On The Menu event, detailing the key aspects of entering and winning the TOBY Award Process. On The Menu Co-Chair Gary Bittner of Air Control Systems was our moderator.

Peggy Sanchez, Managing Director at RiverRock Real Estate Group, touched on the eight criteria essential for succeeding in this Award Process.

Her deep understanding of what makes a TOBY Building come to life allows Peggy to speak extemporaneously on any given topic, providing fellow members with a rich resource of knowledge.

From Fire Life Safety to Common Areas, Peggy drills down on the unique aspects of building types, TOBY Award Categories and highlights the success of our most recent local winners, 4 Hutton & Newport Gateway.

Thank you to Peggy, Gary and the entire Education Committee for hosting such an informative event!

CALIFORNIA'S REDISTRICTING - WHERE DID CHANGES OCCUR & HOW DOES THAT AFFECT LOCAL INDUSTRY?
Every decade following a federal census, California must redraw its district lines of all Congressional and State Representatives to reflect the changing population demographics and size.

The state's independent redistricting commission is tasked with making these changes, balancing population shifts while adhering to the federal Voting Rights Act. These changes take effect beginning with the June 2022 primary elections.

Orange County's Supervisors also voted to update their districts this year. The historic vote creates the first ever majority-Latino district for the county while also increasing the influence of Asian voters. Costa Mesa and Newport Beach have remained in the same district, reinforcing their already close ties.

COLLEGE OUTREACH - RECENT CSUF GRAD LANDS JOB, RECOGNIZES BOMA OC'S ROLE IN HIS SUCCESS
This past year I got involved in the BOMA OC college outreach program. I have to say that the program helped me more than I could ever believe. They helped me gain a vast knowledge of the industry with property walks, access to industry leaders and they helped me get a great career at Warland Investments in Cypress, California.

I am very thankful for the college outreach program and all the directors in OC BOMA. Thank you BOMA OC for helping me start my career in this great industry.
