SPRING SEMINAR: CONNECTING WITH YOUR A-TEAM IN A VIRTUAL WORLD
This past Wednesday, the Education Committee hosted our annual Spring Seminar featuring Industry Leaders, moderated by BOMA OC member David Beal.

With over 100 attendees, the seminar focused on the importance of engaging and extending yourself to your employees. Jen Blakey of the Irvine Company relayed how her team pivoted on a dime to provide virtual resources & training, often in bite size pieces that are easier to digest in a virtual environment.

Louis Marcy of BluSky conveyed how crucial it is to ensure his teams grow, learn and have fun together. By reimagining their Annual Retreat, they were able to have small groups meet virtually and everyone who attended felt valued and engaged.

Past BOMA OC President Karen Flanigan detailed her habit of visiting managers on site, touching base via zoom or teams, and making sure she is tuned into all those who are still going out and engaging with clients every day.

PHILANTHROPY COMMITTEE: McBaking AT THE RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE
Since September 3rd, 2019, the BOMA OC Philanthropy Committee has congregated at the Ronald McDonald House, a global charity that helps feed the families of hospitalized children, to bake their favorite treats for the visiting families.

The Ronald McDonald House supplies a kitchen in their Orange County location on Batavia, and teams of up to 12 volunteers bring their own ingredients to make some home cooked goodies. This popular program, called McBakers, stands firm in the wake of COVID-19 with a modified routine: with the current pandemic rendering home-baked items no longer feasible, the Philanthropy Committee buys their favorite brand of already-baked cookies and leaves them with a smiling receptionist.

The opportunity for you to drop off baked treats at the Ronald McDonald house is offered every day but be watching for the kitchen to open again in the near future!  
NO FOOLIN' - APRIL 1 BEGINS VACCINE ELIGIBILITY FOR 50+ FOLKS
An unexpected increase in vaccine supply means California will receive 2.5 million vaccine 1st & 2nd doses weekly in the first half of April, and 3 million 1st & 2nd doses weekly by the end of next month.

This allowed Gov. Newsom to open vaccine eligibility to residents age 50+ beginning April 1. With a daily average of 400,000 vaccine doses, the return to the office is now in sight for California. "There's not just a light at the end of the tunnel, there's a bright light at the end of the tunnel", said Gov. Newsom.

Beginning April 15, all residents 16+ may register to receive the vaccine. Our state is two weeks ahead of the national goal of May 1 for general vaccine eligibility. Other states including Alaska and Virginia have previously expanded eligibility to residents 16 and older.

In the newly published 'Charting a Path to the Future of the Office' Author John Salustri focuses on the flexibility and preparation CRE owners, managers and vendors must demonstrate to their tenants as they re-enter the workplace.

Uncertainty is another clear theme for 2021. Whether it's shorter leases, varied comfort levels or vaccine rollouts, firms must be prepared to pivot and adapt in a short time frame and limit sweeping changes that may prove moot
