Sip, Support and Socialize

Over 325 attendees enjoyed live music and a variety of wine and beer under a perfect evening sky as the Government Affairs Committee hosted our annual Sip, Support & Socialize Event at The MET on Thursday, August 18th.

We were honored to be joined by many legislators, who had a chance to voice their interest in and advocacy for the commercial real estate industry.

We heard from both sides of the aisle regarding how they view our industry, and the ways in which they are advocating for our sustained growth while limiting regulation.

The party continued into the evening, complete with a photo booth, desserts galore and an after party that some say is still going.

A special thank you to all legislators in attendance, our sponsors, all the committee members and those supporting the BOMA Government Affairs Committee! It is each of you that make the difference!

College Outreach Committee - Student Spotlight

As school returns for the fall semester and BOMA OC's mentorship program begins again, we would like to take a moment to spotlight one of our mentees, Caeli Tyszkiewicz, who was recently hired as an Operations Associate with Irvine Company Office Properties.

“During my last year of college, I joined the BOMA Mentorship Program and was paired with my mentor Colleen. I had an interest in Real Estate in general and wanted to learn more about Commercial Property Management as a career.

Throughout my time in the mentorship program, I was able to participate in property tours, attend networking events with professionals in the industry, and receive resume and interview tips from my mentor, Colleen.

It was through this program and my mentor that I found out about a job opportunity at the Irvine Company. After a series of interviews, I received and accepted a job offer for an Associate position with the Irvine Company.”

CALIFORNIA COMMERCIAL REAL ESTATE SUMMIT 2022

BOMA OC was proud to participate in the 2022 California Commercial Real Estate Summit (CCRES) in Sacramento. CCRES was a huge success due to the participation of numerous commercial, industrial, and retail real estate professionals who represented our industry from throughout the State.

CCRES is the one time of the year that industry leaders from all sectors of the real estate industry come together from across the nation and hear from top policymakers and California State Legislators. CBPA, BOMA California, NAIOP California, ICSC, IREM and others had members from Sacramento, San Francisco, SoCal, Greater Los Angeles, San Diego and all over California converged on the Capitol.

DAY 1:

We kicked off the event with a reception on Tuesday at Prelude Kitchen and Bar, right across the street from the Capitol. Over 30 California Legislators stopped by to meet and talk with attendees about commercial real estate from all over the state. Afterwards, local delegations held individual dinners and invited their legislators to join them!

DAY 2:

After a CCRES Breakfast, our delegation took to the Capitol and Swing Space to advocate for our industry and hear from elected officials and the Newsom Administration. Attendees met with over 1/3 of the Legislature in the new Swing Space, with every attendee getting to speak to their local Assembly Member or Senator, in the span of just a few hours!

BOMA OC was able to meet with:

  • Senator Tom Umberg
  • Assembly Member Steven Choi, Ph.D.
  • Assembly Member Laurie Davies
  • Assembly Member Cottie Petrie-Norris
  • Assembly Member Sharon Quirk Silva

After a productive day of advocacy and education, the event wrapped up with an informal lunch where meeting notes were exchanged, and our friends and colleagues said their goodbyes before heading home.

We look forward to the next Summit in Sacramento!
