2021 AWARDS OF EXCELENCE GALA HIGHLIGHTS EXCEPTIONAL INDIVIDUALS & LOCAL OUTSTANDING BUILDINGS
The 2021 Awards of Excellence Gala was held on Friday, November 12 recognizing outstanding individual and team achievements by BOMA Orange County members. Crystal glasses clinked, toasts were made, and laughter filled the hallways of Balboa Bay Club as our largest annual event returned with a bang.

They say the cream rises to the top. And the 2021's Award Winners rose to the occasion. They were recognized amongst a group of exceptional nominees in six categories. Congratulations to all those winners (listed in images below).

Our 2020 President, Karen Flanigan, was recognized for her efforts navigating us through such an unusual year. She and her Board of Directors led the way as BOMA OC pivoted to virtual events & fundraisers, keeping spirits high and members engaged.

2021's return to in-person events also meant a return to the TOBY Awards Program, with Newport Gateway and 4 Hutton moving onto the Regional Level Judging in early 2022. A huge congrats to those teams for your accomplishments and good luck in the regionals!

Outgoing President, Ceri Osborne, was recognized for her tremendous leadership and poise as 2021 was no walk in the park! She led the return to in-person events, encouraged and expanded educational programs, and challenged us all to keep innovating. Incoming President Mike Kent thanked Ceri and presented the self-confessed audiophile with the perfect gift, a Hollywood Night of Music & Glamour!

YOUNG LEADERS & MEMBERSHIP HOST A MEET N' GREET - FOCUSING ON COMMITTEE INVOLVEMENT
Early on the morning of November 3rd, members and non-members gathered to learn how to become more involved in BOMA OC and what being on a Committee actually entails!

Over 45 attendees made the rounds, taking turns at each 'station' to see which Committee was the best fit for them. Thank you to the Membership and Young Leaders Committees for hosting this event! What a way to start the day!
OSHA SUSPENDS BIDEN ADMINISTRATION'S VACCINE MANDATE FOR BUSINESSES
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has suspended enforcement of the Biden Administration’s Coronavirus Vaccine Mandate, which requires all companies with 100+ workers to be either fully vaccinated or subject to weekly testing and mask wearing while at work.

The mandate’s deadline to be fully vaccinated or implement weekly testing is January 4, but that is now subject to change. The Department of Labor, which oversees OSHA, has stated it is now waiting on further court orders.

This comes on the heels of the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals‘ November 12 decision to uphold a previously decided pause on the mandate, noting the rule is “staggeringly overbroad” and citing “grave statutory and constitutional” concerns over the mandate. Some 85 million Americans are affected by this executive order.

What’s next? Likely a trip to the United States Supreme Court. Multiple petitions have been filed in 11 of the 12 Circuit Courts of Appeal looking to block this mandate. Those petitions will be corralled and one appeals court will be chosen via a lottery system to lift, alter, or keep in place the 5th Circuit Court’s stay. However, based on that ruling, it is likely this will end up in the land’s highest court.
