WOMEN'S SEMINAR & BREAKFAST: A MORNING OF INSPIRATION & HOW TO LEAD BY BEING REAL!
BOMA OC's Education Committee was up extra early on Tuesday, October 19 to host our annual Fall Seminar at the all new Spectrum Terrace. This year's seminar focused on Authentic Leadership and featured industry leader Scharrell Jackson as Guest Speaker.

Early attendees perused sponsor displays and enjoyed breakfast before settling in for the main event. Committee Co-Chairs Monika Escalante & David Beal introduced Scharrell to the group, and she took it from there. Ms. Jackson's message focused on being accountable to yourself first, being real!

Scharrell was not short on humor either, engaging with the audience, asking questions, and making sure the answers were, you guessed it, authentic! And it may have been an early wake up call, but the energy was electric as the Q&A session ended, with attendees buzzing and relating their own stories with each other.

A big thank you to our sponsors and Seminars Committee in particular for hosting this year's event. We look forward to seeing you all again in the Spring!

THE ANNUAL GOLF CLASSIC RETURNS TO PELICAN HILL GOLF CLUB
Fore! On Tuesday, October 12 our Annual Golf Classic returned in full swing to Pelican Hill Golf Club. A full house of over 120 golfers let us know in person events are here to stay, and we couldn't be happier. Golfers enjoyed a blowout breakfast complete with espresso bar & morning libations before heading out to the North Course for an pristine day of golf and fun.

Out on the course, Sponsors hosted 10 different tee boxes. Golfers were greeted with fun games, craft cocktails and prizes galore. And with ocean views on all 18 holes, we can't wait to return next year to continue this popular tradition! Thank you to Jeff Marquis & the Golf Committee for their efforts to make this one of the most popular events year in, year out.
PROST! AN OKTOBERFEST TO REMEMBER AT HANGAR 24
Hangar 24 was the backdrop for this year's Oktoberfest hosted by the Networking Committee. Traditional Bavarian attire and Halloween costumes ensured a fun atmosphere with dirndl & lederhosen outfits on full display! Special shout outs to Team Lasso and Buddy the Elf for their award winning costumes.

Traditional German pastries sweetened the pot as everyone got into the spirit of the Oktoberfest Games! Teams received mystery beer flights and worked together to pick the matching beers in Beer Flight Bingo. The evening concluded with the Main Event, Beer Stein Holding Contest. Rivalries were formed and trash talking ensued, but at the end of the night, everyone had a blast!

Thank you to our Event Sponsors and the Networking Committee for hosting this 'spook'tacularly successful event.
DEEP DIVE SERIES: #6 - GETTING CREATIVE WITH VACANT SPACES
Throughout 2021 BOMA International has offered a series of thoughtful, action oriented articles to its members, entitled Deep Dive. Part 6 in this Series, Getting Creative With Vacant Spaces, amplifies the need for adaptability, the growth of the life sciences sector and how to best adapt to these accelerating changes.

Many landlords and owners are finding their existing tenants more focused on short term lease renewals while waiting for market stabilization. By remaining flexible and open minded in the short term, landlords will maintain these relationships with their tenants as hints of recovery begin to emerge.

Another topic covered is the increased importance of flexible space in the office market. By 2030, 30% of office space is expected to be flexible space, and the demand has accelerated as hybrid and shared space concepts take hold in the corporate world.

BOMA PAC - AB 701 IS SIGNED BY GOVERNOR NEWSOM. NOW WHAT?
Late last month Governor Newsom signed AB 701 into law, requiring Warehouse Distribution Center employers with over 100 employees to establish and use quotas in tracking employee productivity.

This means an entirely new and complex set of rules has been dropped in the laps of warehouse operators, and will lead to a precipitous shift away from new businesses entering the state.

The state has left the onus of establishing responsibility to comply with the employer, meaning they will have to research to determine if their company is on the hook to comply.

California leads the nation in many respects, but it is up to our industry to ensure elected officials know how draconian measures like AB 701 only cause harm to tax paying California businesses.
