Description:

The psychodynamics of anger, to include common reasons for its occurrence and how it is manifested in children will be discussed. Specific play therapy techniques and CBT strategies for working with an angry child will be explored. The role of parents in coaching children to manage anger will also be included. This workshop is particularly important, given that a significant number of children in play therapy experience anger that is out of control.

Learning Objectives:

After attending this workshop, participants will be able to...

• Recall reasons children experience anger to the degree that therapy is needed
• Describe ways in which anger is manifested during play therapy sessions
• Demonstrate various toys to include in the play therapy room to facilitate the expression of anger energy
• Demonstrate specific cognitive behavior techniques for managing anger
• Demonstrate play therapy techniques for managing anger
• List parenting strategies to help the angry child move toward self-regulation

Presenter:

Sonia Hinds, APRN, PMH-BC, RPT-S™ is the Founder and CEO of Chesapeake Beach Professional Seminars. Founder and Executive Director of Barstow Acres Children’s Center, a non-profit practice providing children's mental health services. Ms. Hinds is trained in Child-Centered and Gestalt play therapy with Violet Oaklander (retired). Authored chapter, Play Therapy with African-American Village in text, Cultural Issues in Play Therapy, edited by Eliana Gil, PhD, RPT-S and Athena Drewes, PsyD, RPT-S™. Ms. Hinds received the MD/DC APT 2019 Outstanding Service Award.

Cancellation Policy:

Written notification of cancellation must be received in our office at least 10 business days prior to a training for a refund. A $25.00 cancellation fee will be deducted from the refund. There will be no refund for cancellation notification less than 10 business days.

CBPS reserves the right to cancel a training due to inclement weather or insufficient enrollment. In the event of such cancellation, you will receive a full refund.
