This training will focus on the importance of inclusion of various cultures and ethnic groups. For example, age, gender, the culture of children, parenting styles in certain cultures, what to be aware of in the play room, parent inclusion and how to incorporate the creative art while incorporating the culture of the child and family.



Learning Objectives:

• State the importance of the awareness of cultural practices within the culture of clients relative to play therapy
• Define cultural competency and cultural humility relative to play therapy
• Explain ways in which culture may be incorporated into play therapy practice
• Describe how children are affected by cultural bias

Presenter: Sonia Hinds, APRN, PMH-BC, RPT-S™ 

Sonia Hinds, APRN, PMH-BC, RPT-S™ is the Founder and CEO of Chesapeake Beach Professional Seminars. and Founder and Executive Director of Barstow Acres Children’s Center, a 501c3 non-profit practice providing children's mental health services. She is a 24-year veteran, having served for 5 years in the Army Nurse Corps and 19 years in the US Public Health Service as a Commissioned Corps Officer. Ms. Hinds was trained in Gestalt Play Therapy with Violet Oaklander (retired) and trained in Child-Centered play therapy. She has authored the chapter, Play Therapy in the African American Village in the text, Cultural Issues in Play Therapy, edited by Eliana Gil, PhD, RPT-S™ and Athena Drewes, PsyD, RPT-S™. Ms. Hinds received the MD/DC Association for Play Therapy Outstanding Service Award in 2019. Ms. Hinds is also a proud native Panamanian.

Cancellation Policy:

Written notification of cancellation must be received in our office at least 10 business days prior to a training for a refund. A $25.00 cancellation fee will be deducted from the refund. There will be no refund for cancellation notification less than 10 business days.

CBPS reserves the right to cancel a training due to inclement weather or insufficient enrollment. In the event of such cancellation, you will receive a full refund. 

Cancelling your Zoom meeting registration does not constitute cancellation of your CBPS session registration. Please refer to our cancellation policy in the training announcement, which supersedes all other mentions of options to cancel your registration.
