SUBMISSION DEADLINE IS MONDAY
Apply for the 2022 Sondheim Art Prize
On Monday, January 10, 2022, the application closes for the 2022 Janet & Walter Sondheim Art Prize. The prize will award $30,000 to a visual artist or visual artist collaborators living and working in the Baltimore region. Approximately three finalists will be selected for final review and their work will be exhibited in the Walters Art Museum in June and July 2022. All Sondheim Art Prize Finalists will receive a Finalist Award of $2,500 each, and 10 semifinalists will receive a $500 award and an exhibition during Artscape 2022. BOPA is looking for visual & literary arts professionals to participate as regional jurors for this coming judging cycle of the Maryland Regional Scholastic Art & Writing Awards presented by Arcadia. All jurors will receive a $100 stipend at the end of adjudication in appreciation of their participation. Potential jurors must be available January 8–9, 2022 from 10:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. for visual art adjudication, and the week of January 8–16, 2022 for the writing adjudication. BALTIMORE SCREENWRITERS COMPETITION
Submit Your Screenplay Today
The Baltimore Film Office is accepting entries for the 17th annual Baltimore Screenwriters Competition, a project of the Baltimore Film Office in conjunction with film programs at Johns Hopkins University and Morgan State University. The top entries in each category will win cash prizes and are scheduled to be announced during the 2022 Maryland Film Festival in April 2022. Baltimore City Artist Recovery Grant
As a recipient of federal funding through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), Baltimore City approved $500,000 to fund the Baltimore City Artist Recovery Grant, or ARG, which will provide direct economic relief to individual professional artists whose lives and livelihoods were demonstrably impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Applications open January 31, 2022. FREE WORKSHOP: BANKING BASICS
Business of Arts Professional Development Series
On Wednesday, January 19, at 6:00 p.m., senior consultant Christine Watson from PNC Bank will review banking basics, account creation, and maintenance. This workshop is crucial for artists who plan to apply for the Artist Recovery Grant (ARG) — in order to be eligible for the ARG, you will need a bank account. Virtual Workshop on Legal Issues for Creatives
In this virtual workshop hosted by the Maryland State Arts Council on Tuesday, January 11, from 2:00–3:00 p.m., Maryland Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts will help demystify the most common legal issues for creative small businesses, including include business entity formation, business licenses, permits, and regulations, intellectual property, regulations concerning websites, and employment law. To register, click below.

The Adolph & Esther Gottlieb Foundation welcomes applications for its 2022 Individual Support Grants program, which will award grants of $25,000 in support of mature painters, sculptors, and printmakers who are in financial need. National Drawing & Print Competitive Exhibition
Gormley Gallery at Notre Dame of Maryland University invites entries for the 33rd annual National Drawing & Print Competitive Exhibition, juried this year by Joy Davis, Director and Curator of Waller Gallery in Baltimore. A minimum of $1,500 is available in purchase prize money. Drawings and prints (not photography) in any medium up to 60 inches high (with frame) are eligible with no limitations on color, surface, or materials. Seeking Artists for Two Public Art Projects
The Maryland State Arts Council (MSAC) has announced that the deadline for public artists to apply for the open Request for Qualifications for Bowie State University's new MLK Jr. Communications Arts & Humanities building or the St. Mary’s College of Maryland’s New Academic Building and Auditorium is extended. The new deadline is 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 19, 2022. Interested artists and teams are encouraged to contact MSAC staff with questions about either project by visiting the link below.
GRANTS FOR ANIMAL LOVERS

The Culture & Animals Foundation (CAF) provides annual grants to scholars and artists using their intellect, creativity, and compassion to build a deeper understanding of human–animal relationships and a greater respect for animal rights.
