2022 Baltimore Screenwriters Competition

The Baltimore Film Office is accepting entries for the 17th annual Baltimore Screenwriters Competition, a project of the Baltimore Film Office in conjunction with film programs at Johns Hopkins University and Morgan State University. The top entries in each category will win cash prizes and are scheduled to be announced during the 2022 Maryland Film Festival in April 2022. FREE VIRTUAL WORKSHOP
Get Ready to Apply for the Artist Recovery Grant

On Thursday, January 20, at 6:00 p.m., the Baltimore City Arts Council is hosting a free virtual workshop for programs and organizations that want to get the word out about the Baltimore City Artist Recovery Grant (ARG) to their constituents. As a recipient of federal funding through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), Baltimore City approved $500,000 to fund the Baltimore City Artist Recovery Grant, or ARG, which will provide direct economic relief to individual professional artists whose lives and livelihoods were demonstrably impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. OPPORTUNITY FOR SMALL BUSINESSES
Apply for Empower Baltimore's First Cohort
|
|
Empower Baltimore will officially launch next month with their first cohort beginning on February 21. The Empower Program is a six-week program in partnership with GoDaddy to build websites and expand the digital footprint of local businesses with 10 employees or fewer. The following types of businesses are especially encouraged to apply: social and creative enterprises; BIPOC, immigrant, & women-owned businesses; and neighborhood-based businesses — particularly in A&E Districts, Main Streets, and underinvested neighborhoods. JURIED EXHIBITION SEEKS ENTRIES

TAG/The Artists Gallery invites area artists to share their unique vision in the juried exhibition, “BEING SEEN.” Artwork will be shown in gallery and posted online. Juror, Matt Klos, an artist, educator, and the co-owner of Baltimore’s Exeter Gallery will select five works that will earn cash prizes. Matching Grants for Arts Organizations of All Sizes

Grants for Arts Projects is the principal grants program for the National Endowment for the Arts that serves organizations based in the United States. Grants range from $10,000 to $100,000 and all grants require a nonfederal cost share or match of at least 1 to 1. There are two Grants for Arts Projects application deadlines. PAID OPPORTUNITY FOR PLAYWRIGHTS
Nurturing Writers to Develop a Full-Length Script
|
|
Horticulture Playwrights Workshop seeks Baltimore-area playwrights for their 2022-23 cohort. Selected artists will receive a $1,000 stipend along with feedback, support, and readings of their work. Baltimore-area writers (ages 18+) of all experience levels are eligible to apply with a so-far unwritten idea they’d like to turn into a full-length script. BIPOC, female, and gender nonconforming artists are especially encouraged to apply. Applications must be submitted online by Tuesday, February 15, 2022. For details, click below.

Abell Open Space Public Mural Project
|
|
The primary goal of the Abell Open Space Public Mural Project is to beautify and enhance the long brick wall facing the 32nd Street Abell Open Space. The project budget is not to exceed $7,500 for an artist or team of collaborative artists, and submitted proposals should include a timeline with the expectation that the project would be completed before September 2022. Creativity Grants With a Rolling Deadline

Creativity Grants for Projects offered by the Maryland State Arts Council (MSAC) are intended to support specific arts projects, events, or programs, however, they are available for independent artists as well as organizations. Each application should focus on a proposal for one specific project or program. The funding amount is $1,000 to $3,500 and there is a rolling deadline. For complete guidelines, click below.

Art Competition in Celebration of Preakness

1/ST and the Maryland Jockey Club have partnered with the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) to launch a unique art competition to honor the second jewel of the Triple Crown Series and its impact on Baltimore. Artists may submit their entries now through March 2, 2022. The winning artist will receive $4,000 and two VIP tickets to Preakness 147. For details, click below.
