FALL CONGREGATIONAL MEETING
Sunday, November 10
The Session has called the fall congregational meeting for Sunday, November 10 following worship. The purpose of this meeting is to elect the 2027 Class of Ruling Elders to serve on Session and to approve the 2025 Pastor Compensation. The nominating committee will be placing the names of these individuals before the congregation: Eli Gurlen, Dee McGuire, and Robin VanNortwick. Nominations from the floor may also occur. The 2025 budget which was approved by the Session on October 20 will also be available for information to the congregation. No other business may be considered at this meeting.

When I served at a church in Iowa, I had a close friend who used to attend many denominational meetings with me. One of the observations which he would make often is that the planners for the meetings did not plan for success. There were many times when the breakout rooms were too small to contain the number of attendees who wished to be involved in whatever discussion was taking place. My friend would say that they did not plan to have a successful turn out of attendees. You have heard me talk before about an attitude of abundance versus an attitude of scarcity. I think the words of my friend and this contrasting attitude go hand in hand.
Many times, I think that we set ourselves up not to succeed but to at minimum stay at the status quo. We either do not plan for success or we feel we do not have enough, which will make it possible to succeed. Without getting into a discussion about system theory, the system in which we exist prefers for us to remain where we are because it is comfortable.
This Sunday we will be exploring a story from 1 Kings regarding a widow who is approached by the prophet Elijah. Elijah asks her for something to eat and the widow explains that she is collecting wood to prepare the final meal for her and her child because they have run out of food. She is preparing for them to die. When she looks, she sees scarcity and no way to succeed.
Come to worship this Sunday and explore the concept of how the Lord provides.
Blessings,
Pastor Mark
