Music has the power to touch our spirits in ways that many other forms of communication often lack. When you combine the melodies and words (or no words), a message can be produced which goes deep into the spirit. I discovered this as a teenager and have found that as I have navigated through life certain songs have led me to cry, others to feel great joy, and others to bring a sense of calm.

The Hebrew people came to know the power of music. Messages were conveyed from one generation to another through the use of song. We find this throughout Scripture and even have the privilege of having one of the "song books" which we call Psalms. Throughout the history of the church, this tradition of using music to generate ideas and to express emotions has always been a part of our traditions.

Balmoral Presbyterian Church has a strong tradition of relying on music to be a foundation of our worship. This Sunday, we will have a special worship service which lifts up this tradition. As we share in a service of song, I encourage you to listen to the music for how the Lord may be speaking to you. I also encourage you to join in singing your responses, emotions, and thoughts to the Lord as you sing.

STEWARDSHIP SEASON

We are currently in the time period when you are invited to consider your 2025 commitment to the Lord. You are invited to prayerfully consider how you will respond to the Lord with your time, energy, skills, and financial contributions. Please use the form which you received in the mail, or one found on the table in the narthex, to indicate your commitment. Commitment Sunday is October 6 and we invite you to bring our forms to worship on that Sunday.

ELECTION HOSPITALITY IS BACK!!

We need snacks for voting guests on Tuesday, November 5th. Great way to get rid of that extra Halloween candy?? We also need volunteers to greet our guests. Time slots are available from 7 to 7. Kay Dawson is handling the early shift (6-8) and Scott Dawson is handling the late shift (7-9). Just call, text or grab Scott Dawson 901 849 1685 to get your favorite slot.

THE PRESBYTERIAN PEACEMAKING PROGRAM INVITES YOU to WITNESS PEACE and WHOLENESS in a LAND CALLED HOLY

Mosaic of Peace:         March 24 – April 4, 2025

Jordan Extension:        April 4 – 8, 2025

Join the Presbyterian Peacemaking Program as we:

• experience this remarkable and troubled region,

• encounter its diverse people,

• explore its rich history and complex current situation, and

• engage with those who seek its peace.

By attending this conference, you will:

• be inspired by the stories of Christian peacemakers in the Holy Land, walk in the footsteps of the Prince of Peace and encounter contemporary Palestinians and Israelis;

• be equipped by engagement with Christian, Muslim and Jewish leaders, experience contextual theology and study peacemaking practices within the framework of PC(USA) policy;

• be connected with global and local partners to take meaningful action for a just and lasting peace in the region.

APPLICATIONS

Apply online at presbyterianmission.org/mosaic through November 8, 2024. Notification and commitment packets will be sent shortly after your application is received and processed. Late applications will be considered if space is available. First-time visitors to the Holy Land are encouraged to attend. Previous conference participants and seasoned travelers to the region are welcome as well. Must be 18 or older

.

COST

The double-occupancy rate for the conference is $4,330. The rate includes all conference expenses (including all meals, accommodations, programs, tips, tours and on-the-ground transportation). Airline travel is not included. Limited single occupancy is available for an additional charge of $1,325.

HOTELS

The conference includes 11 nights of lodging: 4 nights at the Gloria Hotel in Jerusalem, 4 nights at Bethlehem’s Manger Square Hotel and 3 nights at the Golden Crown Hotel in Nazareth.

TRAVEL

Participants are responsible for their travel and may book their own airline tickets, but all itineraries must be submitted for approval by the conference registrar prior to ticketing. Departures from the U.S. should be on Sunday evening, March 23, to arrive to Tel Aviv (TLV) on Monday, March 24. (Those who wish to arrive a day early to recover from travel and ready themselves for the conference may do so at their own expense. Hotel rooms at the conference rate are available on March 22 and 23.) Return flights may depart TLV on Friday evening, April 4, to arrive in the U.S. on Saturday, April 5.
