Fall Book Sale
by Friends of the Library
The Friends of the Bloomingdale Public Library are holding their annual Fall Book Sale on Saturday, September 21 (9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.) and Sunday, September 22 (1:00 to 3:00 p.m.). The sale will be held in meeting rooms A & B downstairs at the library.

The library will be accepting book donations at the Circulation Desk beginning Monday, September 16. With each donation through Friday, September 20, you'll receive a coupon for $1.00 a bag of books purchased on Saturday, September 21.

September is an active time for most of us - if we're not getting adjusted to school schedules, it may be a new time of volunteering, a new job, fall cleaning, moving... the possibilities are endless!

BPL has a variety of databases to help you find what you're looking for, and they're free to use with your library card.
This month, we focus on Brainfuse:
Brainfuse HelpNow  offers live online homework help and writing assistance. Free online tutoring is available from 3:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.
Brainfuse also offers the following services, with many available 24/7:
  • 24/7 Center: Submit a homework question and a tutor will provide you with a response (usually within 24 hours).
  • Writing Lab: Submit your paper and receive a detailed analysis of your paper in approximately 24 hours.
  • Skills Building: Helps you master an academic concept through expert tutoring and state-aligned online lessons.
  • Foreign Language Lab: Provides expert homework assistance and support for students who are learning a foreign language. Expert tutoring is currently offered for Spanish.

  • Interview tips and online resources

  • Adult Learning Center: Build academic skills with live tutoring, test preparation, and an online writing lab.

Library Card Sign-Up Month
Adults and children of all ages, now is the time to get your Bloomingdale Public Library Card!

Anyone who registers for a library card in September will receive a small gift bag when they get their card (while supplies last) and will be entered to win a prize bundle at the end of the month.

Did you know that half a million people face hunger in Northern Illinois? The Village of Bloomingdale encourages you to get involved in local hunger relief efforts this Hunger Action Month.

Donations of food and funds are needed to sustain the Northern Illinois Food Bank and local food pantry operations. Donations of non-perishable food and personal care items will be accepted during the month of September at the Library and other Bloomingdale locations (see the full flyer here ).

Here are some other ways to show your support and raise awareness of the realities of hunger:

  • Wear orange on Thursday, September 12 for Go Orange Day to raise awareness about hunger in our community. Join the online campaign by sharing your Go Orange photos using the hashtag #ILHungerAction Northern Illinois Food Bank (@ILFoodBank)].
  • Invite a Northern Illinois Food Bank representative to speak at your church, business, school or club.
