WHAT'S COOL IN SCHOOLS
Young Writers Get Inspired

The Florida Association of Media Educators have scheduled Zoom events with this year’s Sunshine State Young Readers Award authors so students may meet the authors, ask them questions and to get inspired with reading and writing.

Recently, South Lake elementary school’s sixth graders had the opportunity to "zoom" with popular student author Gordon Korman.

The South Lake sixth graders were excited to meet the author and learn some interesting facts about him and his books, and some of his best writing tips as well. The students were shocked to learn that he wrote and published his first book when he was in 7th grade!

CELEBRATING STELLAR STUDENTS
Heritage High School Swimmers Perform Lifesaving Rescue

Recently, the Heritage High School swim team was performing their usual warm-up routine in preparation for a meet. As coaches and volunteers were setting up for the event, the lifeguard blew her whistle, alerting that something was wrong.

Cheyenne Davis (left) and Jen Fararoni (right) were spotted working together to hold one of their teammates above the water. Heritage swim coach Caroline Luna says "Cheyenne and Jen remained calm and collected while helping and following instructions. They were perfect examples of what swimmer, teammate, and Heritage Panther should be."

The swimmer that needed emergency services was attended to by local EMTs and then treated at a hospital in Orlando. He was able to return home and is doing well thanks to the quick thinking of all those involved that day. Great job, Panthers!
