WHAT'S COOL IN SCHOOLS
Boys With a Purpose

Amanda Ramby is in her third year as an Exceptional Student Education teacher at Port Malabar Elementary School. Last week, she invited us into her classroom to see a new, exciting program she is starting for her students. Mrs. Ramby saw a need for a male role model for her class of all boys, and in a partnership with a former Instructional Assistant, she has launched the Boys With a Purpose club. Once a month, Instructional Assistant Stephen Lys will lead the boys in discussions and activities that focus on respect for self and others, social skills, and appreciation of etiquette and manners. In their first meeting, the boys learned about what it means to respect their friends, families, and teachers. They practiced greeting people with a hand shake (don't forget eye contact and a nice, firm grip!) and watched a demonstration on how to tie a necktie. Mrs. Ramby plans to continue the Boys With a Purpose club throughout the year. We are so excited to see what a difference this makes in her students' lives!

Florida’s adult education system includes a range of instructional programs that help adults get the basic skills they need to be productive workers, family members, and citizens. The major program areas are Adult Basic Education and Adult High School and GED® Preparation. These programs emphasize basic skills such as reading, writing, math, and English language competency. Adult education programs also help adult learners gain the knowledge and skills they need to enter and succeed in postsecondary education.

School Board Corner
During Tuesday’s School Board all five members wore Kindness T-Shirts. The purple shirts with the heart logo are a symbol that promotes kindness throughout our community and the country. Students at Tropical Elementary, working with Congressmen Bill Posey, introduced a House Resolution to promote kindness throughout the nation. The efforts were started by kindergartners at Tropical and their teacher Barbara Wilcox.

The Blast Team, Eau Gallie High School

I would love to tell you about the AMAZING ladies that head the Eau Gallie BLAST program. Parents of children with disabilities get very little support in our community. We also do not get the information we need on how to help our children and young adults progress in life. These ladies take this on every day. They are such a positive light in our children's and families lives! They are there to help on a daily basis and honestly take the obstacles they have and make them positive! I am so happy my daughter was able to be a part of this program.
Know an employee, teacher or student who has made a difference at your work site or school? We want to hear about them!
